References when former employer dissolved.

I'm in a pickle with references. I need 2. One must be current employer - fine.

For the other I guess a previous employer would make sense BUT as I've been in current job for 10 years it's going back some time. They were all various project type things that got wound up and scattered to the wind. No remaining hr presence. The manager from the pre 10 year one is retired and very elderly, even if I got hold of him I'm not sure hed remember me.

My alternative would be a former colleague who is fairly respectable. But not sure would mean much, they are basically my mate.

Any suggestions??

I have this same issue all the time. For my latest one I used my manager and my assistant manager from my current job. I think you can use anyone who you are working/worked with as long as they were your line manager/above you.
