What on Earth to do for a whole WEEK at centre parcs?

CovidCorvid · 17/10/2021 18:03

20yo Dd who obviously has more money than sense has booked a week with her bf next spring. They think they got a bargain at £900 as the other weeks were over 1k. 🙄

They had no idea they’re only allowed 4x 2hr slots in the pool and also thought all the other activities were free. They’re now having a panic as they have no money left for activities. Guess that’s their Xmas presents sorted anyway….spending money for activities and the pancake house!

Can anyone recommend what activities are good as they will need quite a few. Also do the huts have WiFi now, they’re just in a basic one. If so and they take a fire stick will they be able to get Netflix?

In your opinion. Not everyone enjoys the same things. Presumably they’ve picked this cos it suited them and they wanted to go. Think of all the travel stress they’ve saved themselves. No worries about airports or passports or pcr tests. I find centre parcs really relaxing myself!

Agree. Seems an insane amount of money to go 20 miles down the road to go swimming every evening.

We went to a Dutch center parcs for 9 nights. There was lots to do. 2 kids 2 adults.

OverByYer · 17/10/2021 19:21

You only live 20 minutes away?!
Makes it even more of a bizarre choice! There’s so much to see and do out there!

Cheers. I thought that might have been the case but wasn't sure.

So op, when you say there's no money left in the budget for activities is that before or after buying food?

Notdoingthis · 17/10/2021 19:26

I would also advise her to cancel and go somewhere amazing in the Mediterranean instead.

DampSquidGames · 17/10/2021 19:32

I went to Center Parcs with my 20 and 22 year old and the activities they particularly enjoyed were Segway, field archery, clay pigeon shooting (who knew I had two wannabe assassins, they were so good), high ropes. They loved all the restaurants, the sweet shop and cycling everywhere.
Our accommodation cost £700 but the whole cost £2100. That was for four adults for four nights.

DampSquidGames · 17/10/2021 19:34

We didn’t stay in a hut.

CovidCorvid · 17/10/2021 19:37

I think they’re happy to take food and cook. Eating out every day would be very expensive and Dd has a load of allergies so I think would struggle. We’ve been looking at the menus and she can’t have any food at the sports bar and no main meals at Foresters.

And sorry to anyone I’ve offended with the “hut” comment. I love centre parcs, it’s just a bit of a family joke. Dh doesn’t like CP so I used to leave him at home and take Dd. He’d always wave us off and say have a nice time in the hut in the woods. I think the cabins/studios are great.

AIBU to think that at 20 they're probably better to be left to work this out for themselves?

I agree. For what it's costing plus the inevitable spending money, food and drink etc they'd be able to get a week's AI abroad.

Or they could spend £900 to stay in a shed in the woods in Nottinghamshire. No contest at all.

Lolololololol · 17/10/2021 19:50

I'm 37 and still ask my mom for advice... only on MN do people turn 18, get cut off and have to figure out everything for themselves.... Confused

prettypinkflamingo · 17/10/2021 20:09

I've been on mumsnet too long ....this thread a few years ago would have had COMPLETELY different responses 🤣

ThatsWhatI · 17/10/2021 20:16

She's an adult surely they can work that out for themselves Confused

Suprima · 17/10/2021 20:16

Why on earth does she want to go to CPs?

She could have a week AI for them both with change leftover

Pheebs2021 · 17/10/2021 20:19

I mean she could have gone to the one a bit further away? I can't think of much around that area that I could entertain myself for a week on!

Weedsorwishes · 17/10/2021 20:19

My husband and I (then boyfriend) went to cp at that age on our own. We are very outdoorsy and like a quiet simple life though! We went to the one in the lakes. We had an apartment one.

We got a session in the spa that was amazing. Hired bikes and went on lots of bike ride, swimming, hired boats etc.

Bought lots of nice food and drink and enjoyed sitting on the balcony of the apartment in the evening.

Hope they have a lovely time!

gogohm · 17/10/2021 20:25

Take bikes? Go hiking? Take a pack of cards or board games. My dd rented a cottage in the middle of nowhere, they found things to do Grin

flatcoatfan · 17/10/2021 20:26

@prettypinkflamingo 😂

BathshebaKnickerStickers · 17/10/2021 20:32

Swimming is only limited now due to restrictions which may be very different when they go. Buy them a couples massage for Christmas.

Get them to take their shopping with them - lots of wine and romantic nights in.

Walks and cycling are free…Center Parcs has not yet found a way to monetise shagging.

My children have been going to Center Parcs all their lives - I suspect they also think all the activities are free…

BathshebaKnickerStickers · 17/10/2021 20:36

@OverByYer

They don’t have to stay on site. They could visit nearby towns or cities for a bit of shopping/ site seeing?
It’s genuinely not easy to come and go. My DD who is 11 broke her ankle at Elveden in July and it was a bit of a palaver to get the car out on a Tuesday, pick her up at the villa, take her to Ely, get her treated and then bring her back.

It’s genuinely not a “get the car out for lots of day trips” type of place
