Been doing some sorting out today of my late df’s stuff and came across loads of these. My dc, who range in age between 17 and 28, had no idea what they were!

Who knows what this is/these are?!

Are those slides?

GreyhoundG1rl · 17/10/2021 17:54

Is there something inside the plastic box?!

thewreckofthehesperus · 17/10/2021 17:54

I do, i am 38. Feel old now lol

WeAreTheHeroes · 17/10/2021 17:55

Me - I'm assuming you don't want the first post to give the game away though?

HerRoyalWitchyness · 17/10/2021 17:55

I'm 30 and baffled. What are they/it?

TheChippendenSpook · 17/10/2021 17:55

Ate they the negatives from an old film camera?

Stillcrikey · 17/10/2021 17:55

We could all come round to yours for cheese and pineapple on sticks to watch the show! With appropriate ‘explanation’ of each one of course 🤣

Threewheeler1 · 17/10/2021 17:56

Slides! You can go to a photo shop and get them printed. Or buy a projector. If you hold them up to the light can you see the pics? We have hundreds from my Dad - great stuff we'd forgotten from our childhood.
Could be fun!

BrettAndersonscheekbones · 17/10/2021 17:56

They are slides. They would go in a projector and the photo would be protected onto a screen or wall.

WeAreTheHeroes · 17/10/2021 17:57

Don't forget the Babycham!

acatcalledjohn · 17/10/2021 17:57

Slides! Haven't seen them since I was a young teen, but they were common in my youth. Mid thirties.

Needcoffeecoffeecoffee · 17/10/2021 17:57

I know. I can hear the noise now. We used to always ask my mum and dad to get everything set up
Dd 11 had no idea (understandable)
Dh 44 also had no idea (surprisingly)

VirgilStarkwell · 17/10/2021 17:57

They look like negatives of photos for a slide show on a projector. Old skool!

The pix might be interesting. 🤔

Doomscrolling · 17/10/2021 17:58

If you’re going to show them, remember it’s traditional to have 10% upside down!

Stillcrikey · 17/10/2021 17:59

Aw - and now I have to mention one of my favourite memories of my dad. We owned the village shop and often people would put up notices of ‘local events’. (Think 70s). Anyway, dad was a bit of a grammar fiend and loved a good ‘interesting poster’. This particular one read ‘Sat 7:30pm, ‘local’ village hall, slides on Greece’. His response was ‘I bet it does’ 🤣

AlexaShutUp · 17/10/2021 17:59

Yes, my dad used to do slide shows of his travels for us and the neighbours!Grin

Wendyer · 17/10/2021 18:01

They are slides! You’re all welcome to come to the showing but I warn you there are hundreds of them, some of them dating back to the 50’s!

I didn’t know you could get them printed, there are some really amazing pics there of the Taj Mahal circa 1960. I’d love to have that one printed. The ones of me as a baby, not so much!

I imagine lots of people have strips of negatives of their pre-digital photos that many people won't recognise for what they are.

stilldumdedumming · 17/10/2021 18:06

We have these of us standing directly outside 10 Downing Street alongside other great childhood memories.

Threewheeler1 · 17/10/2021 18:11

We had a load printed up after my Dad died - also some from the 50s in ours OP. The pics came out really well. Was at a local camera shop, very old school but great at doing lots of specialist stuff.
It was so lovely looking through them. Every Christmas Dad would set up a slide show after we'd eaten, everyone squashed in the lounge & always lots of laughing. Thanks for reminding me of such a nice memory OP! Grin

Wendyer · 17/10/2021 18:13

Ah you’re welcome @Threewheeler1 :). I’ve been having a very nostalgic day myself. Both my parents are gone now so the memories have been bittersweet.

It’s like the start of a Geography lesson!

Threewheeler1 · 17/10/2021 18:19

I know what you mean. Sort of laughing and crying at the same and getting choked up when you explain the memories to your kids. Feels like time passes so quickly, would love to rewind and relive a few memories sometimes!
Hope you enjoy the slides OP, they sound amazing!

filka · 17/10/2021 18:32

Yes. definitely Kodak colour slides/transparencies.

You can have them printed or digitised at most photo shops, or get a hand viewer like this:
www.ebay.co.uk/itm/373738013636?hash=item57048583c4:g:5hYAAOSwh9VhU3Tq

...for the authentic 60s/70s experience of popping a slide in and passing the viewer around.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 17/10/2021 18:51

My scanner has a slide scan option and I turned all our family slides (1963ff) and those of DH's childhood into jpg, before they disintegrated.
