Stranger Things Series 1 - Almost perfect tv?

Rewatching this am as weather here is appalling so tucked up with DD and a lovely cuppa.

It's almost perfect tv isn't it? I love the story itself, wonderful characters, authentic 80's feel, synthesised soundtrack that gives me goosebumps and so many things about it make me feel nostalgic. And the metamorphosis of Mrs Wheeler inspires me as a "mother of a certain age " myself Grin And the return of Winona Ryder as well. The Duffer Brothers just made perfect tv with this one.

I enjoyed S2 and 3 also but the first one reminds me of ET and Stand by Me and those years when I was a kid and went for adventures on my bike and it was just me, my mates vs the world. Happy Days!

Thoughts?

Yes, its so good! I recently rewatched it :D Also, that short bathroom scene near the end of season 3 is so very well done.

Absolutely love Stranger Things for all of those reasons, OP. Makes me long for my childhood days. Great series.

Yes! :D

I love it! I watched series one as a homage to Spielberg. There’s elements of ET, The Goonies and Close Encounters. Dustin is my favourite character without doubt but I love how Steve develops through the three series. I cannot wait for series 4.

By the way, is anyone else really irritated by Mike?

Kanaloa · 17/10/2021 19:48

I loved the first series! Second and third were good but I felt like they did fall a bit short of how fantastic s1 was.

One thing I never thought was really gone into was the whole Jonathan woods photography thing. I know it was important for plot because then he had the photos of barb and the monster but if I was Nancy that would have creeped me out soooo much.

And yes Mike can be a bit of a weenie. I think it’s worse in s3 because he’s so massive. In s1 he’s just a little boy so a degree of weenie behaviour is acceptable but in s3 he looks so grown up. Plus his s3 hairdo irritated me. I felt like he was stealing screen time from the scoops troop who I actually wanted to see.
