Sunbeds safe at moment with covid? Thoughts please ...

It's nothing to do with vanity, it's severe psoriasis on my body. Sunbeds have always helped in the past but now I feel apprehensive.

Do you think they're safe?

I suppose you could always ask them if they're cleaning them between uses? That would make them safer.

I personally feel that the general attitude in the uk now is to just let covid run it's course. We've vaccinated which is the best we can do, the virus isn't going away. So just live your life and pray you're not one of the unlucky folk who get it really badly.

For context: I have close family who have almost died from covid. But I still see the balance for the detriment to mental health vs the risk of being seriously ill from covid.

Do they still have those stand up tanning booths - do you think they might be safer? Less to touch and not so enclosed!

I find the attitude in the U.K. a bit strange - numbers are high but masks not obligatory and no one seems to care any more - I'd be a bit scared

Exactly - Covid would be the least of my worries when it came to a sunbed.

Sunbeds are never safe.

I think I’d be more worried about the risk of cancer than the incredibly minimal risk of surface transmission of Covid. You have a far far greater risk of getting melanoma from the use of sun beds, they’ve never been safe, If you’re genuinely concerned enough to post here about your chances of contracting Covid from a sunbed. you may need to spend more time researching the high risk associated with the process of the use of UV-emitting tanning devices that can the increase the risk of cutaneous melanoma by 75%.

You can hire the stand up sunbeds, if you are planning on doing an intense course it may work out cheaper & less worrying to hire.

The UV destroys the virus. Sunbeds are probably the safest place to be.

If it's medically prescribed, it will be cleaned anyway, so fine and controlled UV dose.

Otherwise, I'm astonished that UV sunbeds are still available to members of the public. Why would you willingly increase your risk of cancer like that?

Do you mean actual tanning sunbeds, or do you mean narrow band ultra violet therapy booths? The first are never safe. The second are medically run and would be safe. I wouldn’t swap my chronic psoriasis over my whole body for dying of cancer.

I'd worry more about skin cancer than covid.

We KNOW that sunbeds can cause skin cancer now. Why why why risk it????! My friend is a dermatology nurse removing skin cancers and sunbed use is very common there.

I was having uvb therapy last year during COVID for my psoriasis. They had implemented gaps between appts for wipe downs and some hygiene rules as well as the usual medical centre practices. I avoid tanning in the sun more than most people since the therapy does elevate my cancer risk. No point taking chances.
