Covid pass text

Just got this text (see screenshot). Clicked link as the text came through on the message thread which gave me my nhs number, added my details and it asked for £2.99 to process.

Does anyone know anything about this?

Scam
The real NHS one doesn’t cost anything

BoredatHome321 · 16/10/2021 20:04

What's the number?

bearlyactive · 16/10/2021 20:05

Nope, don't do it

holidaynearlyover · 16/10/2021 20:06

It says NHSUK at the top of the thread.

If you need to know your nhs number and they send it to you it was that number (I can't actually see one!)

Does that make sense @BoredatHome321

So it came after this text (I asked for my number months ago)

I wouldn't have clicked on it at all if it had been new but this seemed to make it legit

Spam. Report to 7726, the ncsc.gov.uk reporting number for spam texts.

Oh I got that too a few days after I got my second jab. I just ignored and assumed it was a scam!

GrandmasNightgown · 16/10/2021 20:42

I think both texts are scams

There is no 'Find your NHS number service' but there is a section on the ordinary NHS website on how to do that.

It's a scam to get you to input your personal details

The second one is trying to get both your personal details and your money

GrandmasNightgown · 16/10/2021 20:44

"It says NHSUK at the top of the thread"

That doesn't sound right either. Messages I know to be genuine have come from just NHS

holidaynearlyover · 16/10/2021 20:50

@GrandmasNightgown there is a service

And I got a letter for my daughter as I couldn't get it on a text as she didn't have her number registered with the GP so I know that's not a scam

Yes you can request your NHS number from the NHS website and they send it in a text from NHSUK. I’ve used it not long ago myself. I have received no further messages from them though.

Yes, that's what I meant by their being a section on the website which is where your screen shot comes from.

If NHS sometimes does use NHSUK then it is even more important to report the scam text with the request for payment (the link which they want to to click is not the official one). Only the more sophisticated scammers spoof the originating number

whatswithtodaytoday · 17/10/2021 08:09

It will be a scam, there's no charge for a Covid pass. The scammers have spoofed the number to make it look like their messages come from the NHS.

(We've had this happen with emails where I work.)
