I bought a beautiful handmade patchwork quilt in a Charity shop about 3 years ago for £10. It’s beautifully made and fits my king size bed. Every time I get into bed I think how lucky I was to find it. Do you have anything that you cherish or discovered was quite valuable?

My brand new £5 Converse. Or my £5 Fat Face denim shorts which I have well and truly had my wear from! I’ve ditched some weight and they’re a bit on the big size now!

Bit niche but Emma Bridgewater pottery from Norwich cathedral parents are vicars and loved them! Plates, bowls, cups soup bowls for £15 probably worth £500+

Loads. Birkenstocks, Timberland boots, all my dc clothes when they were small, all my Le Creuset, and so much more.

Best Buy ever was in a antiques warehouse (so completely guilt free), bought when I was a teenager. £3 for a first edition Lion, Witch and Wardrobe. Sold a couple of decades later for several hundred pounds.

When I was a child my mom and I went to some yard sales and I rummaged through a box of costume jewelry and bought a pretty ring with a dark blue stone for $5. Years later, we found out it was a sapphire. 😲

A beautiful cashmere and wool coat that looked new, googled it when i got home and it sells for £400! It's so cosy. Also a vintage Hermes silk tie I sold on to a collector. Love a charity shop.

I bought a wooden radio controlled mantel clock, a German brand, for £2.50 - mint condition, working perfectly.

I discovered they sell for £80 on eBay and even a broken one was listed for £30!

We bought a leather sofa from our local Oxfam yesterday, it’s practically brand new with no sag anywhere and no scratches.

We got it for £180 plus £15 for delivery. It’s a current model being sold for £3000!

Bloodybridget · 16/10/2021 16:55

I bought a 1913 street atlas of London in a car boot sale in Leicestershire, a long time ago, for 20p. (Eventually spent £100 getting it rebound . . )
DP found a little George Forman grill in a charity shop for a tenner; probably not such a great bargain, but we use it a lot.

A YSL for Fortnum & Mason vintage skirt suit for £15 - it is now too small for me but I can't quite bear to part with it.

No-one ever believes me when I tell them this. I once bought a book with really pretty pictures in it of landscapes. I just liked that sort of thing, paid my £1 and that was that. Anyhow, it stayed on my shelf in my flat for about 9 years during some really skint times and several house moves. Eventually, I met a guy and he came over to mine. He was perusing my books and seemed really interested in this one and said he wasn’t sure but thought I should get it valued. I was like, yeah right whatever. I didn’t even know how one went about these things so another year or so went by. Finally, I mentioned it to my sister and we worked out how to get it valued. It was the original works of a well known German artist and I sold it at auction for £9k 😬

Similar. Handmade patchwork quilt picked up for £1.50 at a car boot sale in the late 80s. Needed a few repairs at the time but still going strong.
