How did he do this - magic trick

I really don’t like magic tricks , it drives me mad trying to work out how they’re done.

I was out with friends this evening and one of them asked me to place 4 coins from my purse on a table , he then told me to hover my hand over one of the coins while he looked away. He then hovered his hand over each coin ‘feeling the energy’ and picked the coin that I had hovered over. He did it loads of times with different coins and different people doing the hovering. I made him walk away at one point so he really wouldn’t have been able to peek . He chose the correct coin every time.

How does he do it ? I’ve googled but can’t find the explanation- it’s driving me mad !

Any ideas anyone?

Did he have an accomplice at the table that could have given him the nod as to which coin it was?

OverweightPidgeon · 15/10/2021 23:36

No , the only person there all the time was me .

Maybe he is actually magic!!!

LazySundayPlease · 15/10/2021 23:52

Hidden camera of some sort?

OverweightPidgeon · 15/10/2021 23:52

@FWBNC I checked for mirrors.

@HauntedDishcloth I had my eyes closed so I didn’t inadvertently look at the coin I chose .

Someone did this to me years ago and it was his mate in the background coughing over the correct coin to let him know.

Or taking a drink.

OverweightPidgeon · 15/10/2021 23:54

@LazySundayPlease I don’t think there were any cameras

That’s the only thing I can think it would be but the only constant person at the table was me, I’ll ask him to do it again with no one else around.

Basically - social engineering aka brain washing

Very subtle use of words (neuro linguistic programming of a type) and physical actions to DIRECT the "hoverer" to focus on a particular coin combined with possibly watching your cues

Watch this esp from around 1.20 in

It's a fairly crude example but this is basically how it works

I'm no "magic savant" but a branch of my family are con artists and this is one of their methods they would use on a mark. We don't have much to do with them.

Darren brown uses it too - and not always at times where he actually points it out. But I have other issues with what he does
