What happens after A Level exams but before term ends in a state school? Do students have to come in?

Trying to work out if we can book a holiday. Does anyone know what normally happens? It is a state school with a separate 6th form. I realise I could ask the school but I suspect they will have to tell me that it is still term time and I can't book a holiday. But in reality, I am wondering if it matters or if they would care? My child would have turned 18 by then.

Both my DS's only had to go in for exams as soon as the A level papers started. At their (state) school the end of A level exams was the end of school. I think this is pretty standard.

After you've finished your exams either GCSE or A level you dont go in anymore. At least its been that way at every school I've ever known.

Nope. Once exams are done, they’re done!

They have to have a 'spare' week after the official exam series in case there's a huge national fuck up and they have to do extra papers, but generally after the exams are done, the kids are freeeeeeee!!!!!!

My daughters school did some pre-work for A Levels and had their end of school prom. Some of the youngsters organised their own holidays to the coast.

MirandaWest · 15/10/2021 21:21

Prom will probably be after exams finish (if that’s a consideration for your DC)

Wiifitmama · 15/10/2021 21:23

Prom Grin Nope, not worrying about that one!

Yes don't forget prom!

Oblomov21 · 15/10/2021 21:48

Just asked ds and he wants a James Bond tuxedo for his prom.

After the exams we had to get a ‘leavers form’ you take it to all your teachers and get them to sign it. I think it was more to get to say goodbye and hear words if wisdom.

BashfulClam · 15/10/2021 22:06

I remember being scared as I was suddenly ‘on my own’ no school back up!

Ironoaks · 15/10/2021 22:10

There's a contingency date that they need to be available for, in case any exams are rescheduled.

Ironoaks · 15/10/2021 22:15

I just googled.
The exam contingency day for summer 2022 has been provisionally set for Wednesday 29 June.

CatandFiddleForestGin · 15/10/2021 23:18

I'm waiting to book but want the prom date first, have loved waving them off for those 😊
