Very early milk delivery

We get milk delivered on a Tuesday and Friday morning. I went to put out the empties at about 11:45pm today (Thursday) and the milk has already been delivered!? Is this normal? I don't normally check the doorstep until the morning. I usually put the empties out earlier but forgot today.

My neighbour has a milk delivery & I often hear the milk float at about 12.30. I suppose it’s ok in the winter but in the summer I wouldn’t want milk that had been left out all night in the warm.

chimneyextractor · 15/10/2021 00:20

Yes I discovered the same. They always deliver late at night not early morning. Not surprising it is often off!

starfishmummy · 15/10/2021 00:24

Someone has to be first on the round. We have had it at that time too, but are normally up so we bring it in.

We had one who delivered at 1am. This was the summer. Milk out all night as we were asleep. It was only looking at the Ring footage that we saw the time.

BooseysMom · 15/10/2021 00:34

We stopped having milk deliveries as they kept forgetting to deliver it! But when they did manage to remember, the milkman came at 3am. If they're delivering that early in the night, when are the cows milked?! I always used to ponder upon that! I would have thought and hoped they were milked in the early morning and then that is the milk you get on your doorstep. Any earlier and it's the previous day's.

FairlyOddmother · 15/10/2021 00:36

We've only been having deliveries for about 6 months and the milk's never been off. Also never been nicked which is lucky (given the number of doorstep milk thefts reported on our local FB)

The milk has just been delivered down our road. Milkman is extremely noisy!!

DriftingBlue · 15/10/2021 00:40

We put out an icebox with freezer packs for the milk. Our company actually requires it because it can be quite warm where we live. When the temp drops we switch to an old towel in the box to keep it from freezing.

ParkheadParadise · 15/10/2021 00:46

That's really early, I wouldn't like that.
Ours comes at 5.30am

Discwriter · 15/10/2021 00:58

Our milk comes around 11.30pm. Our milkman loves to play with our puppy when I take her out for her last toilet trip. It's slightly surreal now I write it down.

Given it has to be pasteurised and processed and bottled, you do know it's not delivered the same day it was taken from the cow....

It's normal. DH used to deliver milk, he started at 10pm to load his van. He could have 300+ customers a night. The customers who lived nearest the depot got their milk first.

Fuckmyliferightnow · 15/10/2021 01:40

Is this in the Midlands by any chance?

WakeMeUpin22 · 15/10/2021 04:09

Our milk man delivers around midnight. We're fine with this.

nachocheese · 15/10/2021 04:23

We have milk delivered three times a week and it comes anywhere from 10:30pm onwards. Our milkman probably hates me as I always forget to put out the empties so they build up.

We have one of these which helps keep it the right temperature until we fetch it in.

5am from local dairy farm.

It is the milk from yesterday that has been pasteurised, chilled and bottled

proudwomansexmatters · 15/10/2021 05:43

Between midnight and 1am here too.

HeartsAndClubs · 15/10/2021 05:48

Between midnight and 1 AM here as well.

We use “the modern milkman”, conversely milkandmore rarely delivered before about 7:30 and on several occasions it wasn’t until lunchtime so I stopped using them.

Ellabella222 · 15/10/2021 05:49

5 here. I love having a milkman. We can order bread, eggs, cheese etc right up to 5 pm the day before. It’s a life saver.

Sparklfairy · 15/10/2021 05:49

This is so naive quaint, I love it.

Constellationstation · 15/10/2021 06:01

Ours was getting delivered at about midnight which surprised me. I thought it would be more like 5am

FrankGrillosFloof · 15/10/2021 06:07

Loving the PP who thinks the cows are milked and it’s delivered straight to door that morning Grin

On some farms the bulk tanks are only emptied every 2 or 3 days, then it’s got to be processed and distributed. It can easily be 4 days old before it gets to the consumer. Eggs are the same
snapple21 · 15/10/2021 06:21

I cancelled modern milkman because of this - I don't want milk delivered at 12-1am

Mol1628 · 15/10/2021 06:35

I cancelled milk and more because of this as well. Milk getting delivered at 12am in the summer. They were generally shit anyway though and always forgot extras even though we got charged for them then we’d have to chase a refund.
