3 hours in London - recommendations?

I have 3 hours to kill in London tomorrow while waiting for a friend, before we go in to Portsmouth together.

Any recommendations for something to do?

I'll be grabbing lunch on the train, so wondered about shopping/gallery/museum, so no need to factor in eating, but looking for something I can't do/see elsewhere.

Thanks!

Where are you getting the train from?

Waterloo to Portsmouth. Travelling to Kings Cross. I'll buy a travel card so can go wherever.

I would take the train from kings x to Blackfriars (thameslink from platform a) then walk to the tate or along the southbank to Waterloo.

Or simply walk via Bloomsbury as Covent Garden. Maybe pop into the British museum. Go to the LRB Bookshop. Wander through Covent Garden. You’ll have time to visit the national gallery or you like. Then over hungerford bridge. Walk along the river until you run out of time

That sounds good - thanks Greenstep. Any thoughts on a contingency if the weather is bad?

I agree the Southbank is lovely. If you go to Blackfriars you can go into the Tate Modern and then walk along the South Bank to Waterloo - walk as far as the London Eye or even Westminster Bridge to see the Houses of Parliament then walk back to Waterloo.

Alternatively you could head for Covent Garden/Leicester Square and have a wonder then there’s the National Gallery on Trafalgar Square or you could walk through China Town and around Theatreland and down to Piccadilly Circus - there’s a huge Waterstones just up from Piccadilly Circus if you like bookshops - I could spend 3 hours just in there!

Another nice place to go is Harrods - the food halls are amazing especially. You could get some posh snacks for the onward journey!

Have a lovely day!

Thank you! I'm really looking forward to it 🙂

Silent Fall at Superblue Art opened this week, it's a really cool immersive artwork which releases bubbles filled with scent you can hold. You only get a short amount of time in the room, and it's not cheap but something special and you're on a tight timescale anyway. See my post on it here

Otherwise Tate Modern has its new Turbine Hall installation, free, with squid like drones flying around.
