How often do you intend to have a nice and healthy meal then think aaaah f*** it I'll have a takeaway 😁

Just that 😂

OP posts:

I'm really jealous of your takeaways OP - DH had a new obsession with using leftovers for as much as possible and its becoming very dull. Its leftover bean chilli tonight, and last night it was the same chilli made from leftover bean bolognese. I had to stop him mixing the leftover chilli into leftover curry "as an experiment" Envy (not envy).

He's always been thrifty but now I'm off sick and need him to actually go to the supermarket, everything possible is being dragged out of the kitchen cupboards to put off going for as long as possible. Angry

minipie · 15/10/2021 17:59

No but I do often think fuck it let’s have carbonara instead

ItchyHeadNitOrNot · 15/10/2021 18:00

Alllll the time 🙁

We say we'll start the diet on Monday. Every week...

RampantIvy · 15/10/2021 18:01

Rarely. It is more effort to drive several miles for a takeaway than to rustle up a salad.

Kitfish · 15/10/2021 18:03

Every Friday evening.

cantgetmyheadroundit · 15/10/2021 18:06

Too often than is good for my health or my purse. However, I am almost always disappointed, so have really cut it down since lockdown.

ISpyCobraKai · 15/10/2021 18:27

Not as often as I'd like.
Ugh, I hate my stupid, lacking bank account Grin

YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 15/10/2021 18:30

Just ordered sushi so it’s possible to be healthy and have food delivered!

scottishnames · 15/10/2021 18:41

Never.

  1. As PPs have said, if you live a long way away from anywhere selling fast food, it's MUCH easier to do something quick at home.
And, as another PP said, the taste is so often very, very disappointing.
  1. I don't eat meat but my DH does. A nasty recovered industrial meat and starch burger ( we all know what Jamie Oliver called them) in a boring, flaccid white bun costs so much more (according to this site: www.fastfoodmenuprices.com/uk/mcdonalds-menu-prices-uk/ than a similar-sized portion of nice grass-fed steak. I can cook that for DH in 5 minutes - cut in strips and stir fried with onions, peppers or mushrooms, garlic etc , or flattened against a really really hot cast-iron pan. It's so much more healthier and - I'm prepared to bet - tastes an awful lot nicer.
At the same meal, I'd probably have an omelette. With cheese or mushrooms etc. Costs even less and takes about 2 minutes to cook.

I really, really don't want to sound smug, though I know many people will probably think that I am being so. FWIW, I but the meat in fairly large quantities, pack it in individual portions, freeze in and then take a pack out of the freezer before starting work in the morning. There are of course many other quick, tasty and healthy alternatives. I just think we've somehow all been brainwashed to think that nasty industrial food is somehow a treat.

MalteseBubs · 15/10/2021 19:11

Same never.
All I can think about is the cost and calories in a takeaway and the wait.
This is a time for toast or frozen pizza.

Merlotmmm · 15/10/2021 19:13

Now never because I moved. It was a massive reality check when I looked at how the costs were adding up too!

thenightsky · 15/10/2021 19:15

Never. Takeaways are a massive treat, so birthdays and Boxing Day only. Its almost a 30 mile round trip to get one so someone can't have a drink until they've been out to collect it.

Marguerite2000 · 15/10/2021 19:22

Never. I don't have takeaways.
I do eat other crap food though. My favourite treat is to do a little 'party tea' for myself with things like doritos, dips and cheese and onion rolls.

B229 · 15/10/2021 19:24

@EatSleepRantRepeat

All the people who say they have no takeaways around, where on earth do you live? Even in the most rural places like Norfolk and Cornwall I've managed to find a takeaway place, even if I've had to collect it.
North Scotland, but not on the mainland. Prior to that lived in rural area of the Highlands for a little bit and same problem. Oh how I miss you Glasgow with your delicious food! Grin
FatBettyintheCoop · 15/10/2021 19:44

Only on holiday really as there’s no takeaways within a 15 mile radius and for anything really nice, I’d have to go to the city which is about 100 mins drive away. I’m in rural Ireland.

However, I have learnt to cook my favourite Chinese and Indian dishes myself. In fact, I’ve just finished eating a crispy chilli beef stir fry tonight. Plus no MSG added, so that’s a huge benefit too as it usually gives me a migraine.

merryhouse · 15/10/2021 20:13

@scottishnames surely you don't mean 89p?

Even if you're talking about a Big Mac, £3.19 for grass-fed steak is quite impressive.

scottishnames · 15/10/2021 21:27

merryhouse
As I said, I really, really don't want to be confrontational. But the OP did ask.
Please where does the 89p come from?
A quarter-pounder burger, according to the site that I quoted is £3.19. for approx 115g grotty meat-starch-mixture, and a bun.
To take the most expensive example I can find from an online supermarket, 300g of lean, quality Aberdeen Angus frying steak from Waitrose costs £4.50. One could buy that more cheaply from Argos. Lidl, Morrisons etc etc.

OxanaVorontsova · 15/10/2021 21:28

Never, I hate takeaways. If we have them it’s because others in the house want them.

Twilight7777 · 15/10/2021 21:29

That’s my life you’re talking about 😳😂

underneaththeash · 15/10/2021 22:53

Once a year - only if I’m unwell and therefore wouldn’t eat it myself!

EatSleepRantRepeat · 17/10/2021 15:46

I do love a 'picky tea' @marguerite2000 - my absolute favourite thing is a jacket potato bar with a huge choice of fillings, but none of my friends share the enthusiasm sadly! Sometimes I just want a proper British party food table like yours instead of oily cooking sauces and fancy ingredients.
