What was your best wedding gift?

Just that really! What Was your most memorable/ best gift?

My friend is (finally) getting married later this month (having postponed three times since March ‘20!) and I’m looking for gift inspiration!

My mum's friend is an artist. She painted the wedding venue while the ceremony was underway (she came to the evening do) and gave it to us that night. I love it so much.

That, and a bottle of champagne from an uncle which had one of those reseal lids for champagne / prosecco bottles as a free gift. Still use the lid now!

@RedCarsGoFaster that’s a lovely gift! Unfortunately if I attempted anything like that it would look like a three year old’s finger painting!

Resealable champagne, very handy (I love a kitchen gadget!)

@VladmirsPoutine they are hoping to have kids so either of those would probably be quite handy Wink

I just got married one of our best gifts was money that was specifically to get a piece of art for our house. So we got to pick what specifically but there was parameters around it as my uncle didn't want it to end up going to bills etc. So we picked one from a local artist and the colours of it match our colour pallette and it's gorgeous.

My favourite was a beautiful traditional picnic hamper from my uncle. It’s wicker with leather straps, gorgeous place settings, and a classic tartan blanket. Something we would never have bought for ourself, but have had so much use out of it (and still do, 28 years later). I absolutely love it.

A weekend away at a nice hotel as a foursome, booked for about two months after the wedding. Really nice to have something to look forward to post-wedding excitement

I got married in July, and tbh, money was the best gift we got. Other people got us personalised glasses etc., and they're all in the loft already because we don't have the space and they just don't match everything else we've got. The money on the other hand is making our honeymoon planning very enjoyable!

Failing that, definitely an overnight stay voucher would get my vote!

Mainly the things on our gift list to be honest, dinner service, cutlery etc. Someone did buy some beautiful crystal wineglasses which we'd never buy ourselves but we only get them out at Christmas. Also a lovely crystal vase. I must admit, most of the off-list stuff didn't end up getting used and eventually went to the charity shop. Anything with Mr and Mrs on would have been out the door faster than it came in, luckily no one did.

Mine is purely sentimental. My dad died several years before I even met my husband to be, I missed him walking me down the aisle, I missed him sharing that day with me. At the time he died my brother did not really get on with my parents (almost entirely down to my parents) and my relationship was strained with my brother because of this.

On my wedding day, after we my husband and I were married and after pictures (so some tears would not matter) my brother took me, my husband and my mum into a side room. Whilst my dad was dying in hospital my brother had taken the time to set up the equipment, take my dad in a shirt an help him smarten up and record a message for me on my wedding day, knowing that he would not still be alive when it happened. My brother played us the video, it was only a few minutes long, at the end of it my dad, in the video asked my brother to had the items to us, my husband a pair of cufflinks my dad had always treasured, I received a necklace which my dad had chosen and which my brother had got engraved with our wedding date as well as DVD and flashdrive with the video on. I would not have cared if someone had bought me a house, a private jet or the world, that was the most amazing wedding present I could have been given short of getting my dad back for our day.

Kenwood chef and le creuset kitchen stuff and honestly a decent garden spade.

Also mundane things like towels but pretty ones that we wouldn’t have bought ourselves, still use 30 years on. DH was married before and when they split he took the his towel and she had the hers, we use it for cleaning paint brushes.

Fortnum & mason picnic hamper with a champagne afternoon tea. Delivered the day we got back from honeymoon. Really special.

An 8x8’ cupboard made from reclaimed wood. It’s had a few incarnations, currently holding coats in the porch. But I’m guessing you’re thinking if something easier to wrap Grin it’s difficult because art and furniture are so personal, you’d need to be really confident. You need to know their twee threshold too- not everyone likes personalised wedding tat.

I also got married this year, too be honest we appreciated the cash the most as we got enough to cover the entire cost of a lovely honeymoon for next year. We've lived together a long time and don't really need any more 'stuff'

Art is something I’d love to get them but I know our tastes are quite different and I don’t have the confidence to buy something that they would feel obliged to hang up every time I came over! Grin

A couple of picnic hamper suggestions, they definitely could be a couple that would picnic!

For us, when I think back, we were given so many great presents. A proper barbeque, a big le creuset pot, and in hindsight, one of the best gifts was a large set of silver cutlery. It has replaced the cheap tatty stuff we had before, and has been in daily use for years now. It will be for many more to come too.
My family clubbed also together to get us a weekend away city break including flights, hotel, dinner and a show, which was pretty amazing.

To echo a few others, we also got a wicker picnic hamper and it was actually a lovely gift and something we would never have bought ourselves.
