Re joining NHS- pay scales

Hello, does anyone have any experience of re joining the NHS after a period working elsewhere ( private sector). Have you been able to negotiate not starting on bottom of pay grade again?
For background: I qualified as a nurse in 2002, worked for the same trust up until 2017, most at a band 6, last year working as band 7.
I left in 2017 to take up a registered manager post in the private sector, but after much deliberation have decided I would like to go back to clinical work in local nhs trust. Happy to take the pay cut to a degree, but starting back in the bottom of a band 6 after the years service I had seems harsh? Would it be possible to negotiate a higher pay point ( same band 6 obviously). If anyone has managed this I'd be grateful for comments.
Thanks in advance.

You can ask but since agenda for change pay changes there are only 2 pay points in the scales, bottom and top of band 6.

Some allow you to negotiate, can’t hurt to try.

If you do go in higher up the band it won’t take so long to hit the next pay bracket. I think it’s 4-5 years now before pay changes.

I have negotiated on more than one occasion and been successful. I highlighted my previous experience at the top of the band (or in one case a higher band in the same speciality). I would never have done it ore working in the private sector as it just didn't seem the 'done thing' but having experience outside of the nhs of salary negotiation I was much more confident doing it. If the role is a band 6 they have the budget for a top 6 even if they appoint at the bottom so ask but be prepared to demonstrate thoroughly why.

Our Trust is absolutely desperate for nursing staff and wouldn't hesitate to bring you in at the top of the band.

As a recruiting manager, I just have to justify a higher salary point for someone who's been away from the nhs. You may have more room for negotiation if your salary is above the bottom of b6, they will be more likely to match it to a similar point.

Thanks everyone.
There are 3 pay points on a band 6, £32, £34 and then £39.
I had previously worked for several years at a top band 6, one year at a bottom band 7, and my current job in private sector is paid at £43k so mid point band 7 pay.
Fingers crossed then that they may be willing to at least consider not putting me straight in at the bottom!
