Can you help me find this children's book with absolutely not much to go on?

And really - it's next to nothing

Here's what I know ..

It was set in the UK. British author

Features a teenage girl called Minty, possibly short for Araminta. Think she has a brother.

Will be set in the 70s I should think as that's how old it is. Could just sneak into 1980 maybe

Author someone like Nina Bawden although I know it isn't her.

Err anyone?

Moondial I think?

DelurkingAJ · 13/10/2021 20:29

There’s a Minty in Moondial by Helen Cresswell. No brother but a boy ghost.

Miraloma · 13/10/2021 20:30

Was she called Araminta Eversage? That name is burned into my mind for some reason!

Yy loved Moondial

Moondial. One of my favourites! When she reads the sundial by moonlight, she goes back in time.

UnaOfStormhold · 13/10/2021 20:32

I agree this sounds like Moondial. There was a TV adaptation too...

ChicCroissant · 13/10/2021 20:32

That does sound similar to Moondial, my DD read that at school a few years back. Tom is the boy she meets, I think she may have a brother as well. Staying with an Aunt/Godparent or similar who works at a large house/estate?

bookworm14 · 13/10/2021 20:33

There is a Minty in Moondial but she doesn’t have a brother. Carrie’s War by Nina Bawden is about a girl and her brother - could you be conflating the two books?

CrystalBird · 13/10/2021 20:37

Definitely not moondial

I think I'm thinking Nina because she also wrote a book called the runaway summer which was quite 'gritty' - and I have a memory of this book being gritty.

And The Runaway Summer is the only book I've read by NB so wouldn't be confused by others
