Fairy non Bio platinum washing pods- awful scent making me gag!

Anyone else noticed it with the new Platinum Fairy non bio pods?

I’ve always loved the scent of fairy non bio before, but whatever they’ve added to boost the stain removing power as mentioned on packaging smells so overpowering! Just hung out my washing to dry on the airers and can even smell it wafting from the other end of the house!

Typical that I bought 2 large packs, what a waste as don’t think I can bear to use them again.

Ariel ones stink too. I only use them when we've run out of powder.

onemouseplace · 13/10/2021 14:44

I bought some when we were on holiday for the holiday let and totally agree - they were so strongly scented they gave me a headache!

Xiaoxiong · 13/10/2021 15:37

Hopefully you only notice it because it's a new scent - your nose will get used to it after a while hopefully.

I had to buy Surf once during lockdown because I couldn't find Persil and the smell was so strong...then I managed to get Persil, and that smelled incredibly strong when I started using it again! I had just become "nose blind" to it before I think.

I thought there was something wrong with me. Everywhere l went l would get this horrible smell. Especially as my husband couldn’t notice anything. It’s dreadful. So glad l have come across these posts. I am going out to buy something else and re wash my clothes. I have also been feeling very uncomfortable as if getting a urine infection. Definitely the washing pods

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 10/11/2021 14:17

I’ve got Ariel ones at the moment and they’re dreadful. Haven’t had any for ages and they aren’t at all how I remember. The smell lingers as well. Must buy something different next supermarket shop.

Jess115 · 10/11/2021 19:02

I have been recommended to use surf. Great smell apparently

Djifunrsn · 10/11/2021 19:05

I hate this strongly scented stuff. I can't believe so many people accept it. Breathing in these nasties is bad for you IMO. I have one friend, her house and all of her family smell completely of their washing detergent. When my dd comes back from there, she also smells of it, even though she's only sat on the sofa/played with toys!

I have ecover. The one with eucalyptus (I think) has a very slight smell only.

moanyhole · 10/11/2021 19:13

I recently bought l3nor gold orchid fabric softener and the smell is truly foul. Had to throw it out and wash the load again. Can't believe anyone would like it

Noolsy · 09/10/2022 15:21

I am so annoyed that the smell of the Fairy pods has changed. It now smells like really cheap own brand, low cost stuff. I also bought a large family bag of Fairy pods which are destined to be passed on to someone. I'm now in search of another scent. I'll sniff out Surf. Take heed makers of Fairy.... we're all leaving you!!!

TonTonMacoute · 09/10/2022 16:03

All those things smell horrible, that's why I only use the powder.

Noolsy · 11/10/2022 11:47

I bought Surf powder hoping it would have a better scent that the new Fairy pods smell. It's disgusting too!!!

SuperCamp · 11/10/2022 11:56

Sympathies OP.

expensive on water and power, but does your machine have an extra rinse programme?

Swap them with someone who likes over-scented washing detergent?

The Lidl Formil especially makes me feel ill. I was using Tesco own brand liquid, but I have a suspicion that they have ‘improved’ that because it seems strong.

Can’t stand all this unnecessary fake scent, and no my sense of smell doesn’t adjust to it!

Same. I'm not sure how powder fell out of favour because I don't see any advantage with the pods and liquids that gunk up the machine, make sensitive skin itch and are always over scented.

FourTeaFallOut · 11/10/2022 12:04

Not to mention the ones which have been designed in a way that is so appealing to children the vast majority of their advertising campaign is spent telling you how dangerous it is and how to keep them away from children. Just don't bring it in the house, job done

BigSandyBalls2015 · 11/10/2022 12:04

Have a look at Smol, they deliver to your house (and Sainsburys/waitrose sell them, but dearer). Smell gorgeous and are very eco friendly.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 11/10/2022 12:09

Once I read about pods and fabric conditioner gungeing up the machine*, I switched to powder - half the amount I would once have used in the drum, and soda crystals in the drawer (hard water here.) I’ve never looked back.

*I think it was Piglet John who said it on here, and advised a very hot empty wash with just soda crystals. I was 😱 at the amount of dirty grey foam that appeared - had to do it twice to get rid of it all.
Well worth a go IMO.
And no plastic from pod boxes or the bottles of liquid. I always found the pod boxes a bastard to open anyway.

Reallyreallyborednow · 11/10/2022 12:16

There seems to be a relatively recent trend for very heavily scented laundry products.

i coach kids dance and sometimes I struggle to get near to kids as the smell is so overpowering. It isn’t pleasant.

FarmhouseLiving22 · 11/10/2022 17:40

I'm glad it's not just me! I thought it was my pregnancy hormones. It was a relief when I'd finished the pack as they were making my morning sickness worse - have switched to Aldi's own comfort brand now

Footle · 11/10/2022 19:30

Zombie thread but worth mentioning Surcare powder. No smell, no itching.

Noolsy · 14/10/2022 19:10

I've now bought Ecover honeysuckle and jasmine bio laundry liquid. After wasting money on Fairy Bio AND Surf powder. Both of which are disgusting. Pleese smell good Ecover!!!!

Lindyloosunny · 20/10/2022 00:42

I completely agree. I gave my fairy pack away. What are these companies thinking. I am really pleased to know it is not just me.

Angelofthenortheast · 20/10/2022 01:02

Yeah I chucked the whole pack away. Total waste but it was making me feel really sick too. Use sainsburys own brand now

jtaeapa · 20/10/2022 01:22

Anyone else needing to Chuck a pack,
just take to supermarket and put in donations basket. There will be baskets for food bank/Ukraine etc. some people like these scents. I don’t, I put a bottle of washing liquid that I re sealed in. I used one wash worth and it was too strong so I closed it up and donated it.

Worriedaboutethics · 20/10/2022 01:49

@Summergarden

smells fine to me
