Can you ease a cough for 5m baby?

He’s waking himself up with this awful cough and then crying because he’s tired. I got next to no sleep last night because I was either woken by him coughing or by him crying because he’d woken himself up.

It sounds mucusy. Last night I thought he was choking but it must have been the mucus at the back of his throat.

Anyone got any tips to ease his cough?

its awful when they have a cough, days and nights feel endless.
Raise his mattress so a slight slope (cushion under the top end)- baby vicks (technically for 6 months olds but i would use it on a 5 month old)- round the rib cage and on their feet when they sleep.

Propping the mattress up a bit at his head.

Calpol plug in can help a bit. Breast milk. Cuddles.

Thank you so much! His cot does lift up at one end for reflux so I will do this. I don’t know why I didn’t think of this.

I didn’t know baby vicks was a thing. I’ll nip to the chemist.

If the coughing is continuous and he can't get a break to fall back to sleep you could try a steamy room for 10 mins (bathroom with shower running hot) or 10 mins outside in the cool air. Both of these would break the cough cough cough cycle when my DD was little. Warm bath in a steamy bathroom before bed will also help loosen mucous.
