Can anything get rid of second hand smoke

Hi all,

My next door neighbors are hoarders and chain smokers. As a consequence their house absolutely stinks and is a real mess. While they are entitled to do as they please in their own home their constant smoking means our house also stinks of smoke. Especially when they are actually having a cigarette in their bedroom (which as I say its almost constantly) If I leave washing in any of the joining rooms it ends of stinking of stale smoke. My daughters bedroom smells of it. When we go up to bed its often as if someone has been smoking in our room its that bad. I didn't realize it could be this way and affect our house so much but im not exaggerating. When we first moved in I accused DH of secretly smoking its so strong.

Anyway as annoying as the smell is. Especially when its on my childrens clothes and bedding im worried about the health implications of second had smoke. Is there anything that would get rid of this for us.

I found a drop of fairy liquid mixed with white vinegar & hot water then wiping with a wet cloth gets the smell out of many items, washing bedding and clothes as normal gets the smell out but as for preventing it, only solution I found was keeping windows shut. My previous neighbours smoked cannabis and our whole flat stunk of it, had to keep our windows on that side of the building shut in the summer.

God that's awful I don't think I could live with that. Would it be possible to put extra insulation on the walls you share with them and replaster?

I would 100% move out. I bought a smoker's house. I had to rip out every carpet and all wallpaper. It was horrendous.

Yes you can’t live like that it sounds awful.

Try an ozone generator.

Oh also we have an air purifier LeVoit - got it on Amazon. We moved into a short term rental where the lady had smoked and it made a huge difference.

Worth a try?

Thanks all I will have a look on Amazon for the suggestions.

Unfortunately we only bought this house in Jan so can't afford to move.
