Do food banks want pet food?

I'm just sorting out our harvest festival donation for DS' school and wondering whether to put in a box of cat food sachets?

Thanks

The food bank I work for takes pet food but it’s best to check with your local one.

MrsSkylerWhite · 12/10/2021 20:10

Yes, ours does if it has a month or more on the date.

Theredjellybean · 12/10/2021 20:10

The one I volunteer at has pet food boxes.

If you know what food bank the stuff is going to you could contact them and find out?

SpindleWharl · 12/10/2021 20:15

I've never known a food bank that doesn't, as long as it's in date (by at least a month as pp said ^^), and unopened obvs.

Check the website or app for the foodbank in question for their priority needs.
We take pet food but at the moment we have far too much and it is on the ‘No Requirement Currently’ list ( although it is accepted with thanks along with the other well stocked items - pasta, cereals tea and toothpaste)

Nice thought, OP, btw.

People with pets get stuffed up by UC/ESA/PIP/WTC too.

I volunteer at a FB and we accept pet food.

Do check the dates on other items though, every year we get totally random donations, often years out of date as if people have just grabbed something from the back of a cupboard ... if you don't have anything suitable to donate we would rather just have nothing.

Yes!

thepastisanothercountry · 12/10/2021 21:12

Thank you I will pop a box in the bag and don't worry, I've checked all the dates. I happily eat out of date tins but that doesn't mean anyone else wants to Grin
