Does Conservative HQ have posters on here specifically designed to nudge public opinion ?

Years ago I got the impression that MN was pretty much a liberal slightly left leaning website but recently it just seems to have got far more right wing and supportive of the government. Threads remotely critical of the way they are handling things just seem to be full of pro government posters. Lots of threads seem to be full of accusations of the press being sensationalist or scaremongering, even when neutral media observers are shocked by the government's incompetence. Maybe the country is becoming more right
wing or the demographic of users has changed but I've never seen so many threads so overwhelmingly one sided. Years ago there would be a fairly equal sprinkling of left/right views, opinions would be more nuanced, less dogmatic, now it's so polarised and posters just seem to repeat the same old cliches but with no evidence.
I started wondering whether political parties actually employed opinion influencers on here. Tories in particular have form for doing this - remember the televised leadership debate when they tried to present a fact checking service as neutral when in fact it was their own media account with the name changed...
So has MN changed or are there literally hundreds of tory bots loitering around to nudge opinion here and there Grin ?

I think it has been the case for a few years now that people have alleged this goes on on MN yes. Who can prove it though.

Hmm I wouldn't put it past any political party to put people on MN. But you have to consider that maybe the 'shy tories' are not so shy in an anonymous forum.

As if you'd believed MN was reflective of the country, remain would have won by a landslide in the Brexit vote.

There will be shills from all sides, though tbf, I imagine that it's mainly the lunatic fringe on both sides that send plants into Mumsnet.

Yes. Some people seem to be very shocked at the idea though whenever it's talked about on here. I think a lot of people are rather naive.

MN was a far more important and relevant weather glass ten years or so back. The 2010 election was called the Mumsnet election and all the political leaders came on here to do webchats in the final week of campaigning.
Now we just get Us4Them parachuting in to spout drivel.

Marguerite2000 · 12/10/2021 20:06

I get the impression there's more labour shills on here.

MrsSkylerWhite · 12/10/2021 20:07

Oh, they’ll all be at it.

BIoodyStupidJohnson · 12/10/2021 20:08

All popular internet forums have an element of this, from all sorts of angles not just Tory/right.

Retailer PRs too. ‘Should I buy a Eufy?’ ‘What do you do with Zoflora?’ ‘Are Sharks really that good?’ etc

einekleinenachtarbeit · 12/10/2021 20:36

@Marguerite2000 see I don't see that now. Every thread about how bad the tories are turns into how bad labour is. There are few supporters of labour on here. Or if they are they aren't shills. They are well aware of labour's weaknesses. And funnily enough I recognise the tory ones who are comically blatant Grin

I think this is going on at the moment on the Rishi Sunak threads— several avid Tory defenders on there have no other mumsnet posts , unless it relates to Boris Johnson or defending of the Tory government. Either it’s Carrie!- lol! OR they are a bit obsessed. It seems weird to me to only come on mumsnet and comment on political threads to defend Johnson and the government and absolutely nothing else— I would say the same by the way if I saw it on threads related to labour or Starmer but haven’t picked up on any yet.

MatureStudentToBeMaybe · 12/04/2022 20:32

I'd be surprised if major political parties didn't do this. Mind you I am always suspecting Russian bots too.
