Fatty Batter - cricket book - anyone read it?

"Fatty Batter - How cricket saved my life and then ruined it" by Michael Simpkins.

It's a lovely, funny and gentle book about a young lad's obsession with cricket.

I read it years ago and absolutely loved it and now I want to give it to a friend who has cancer to cheer them up whilst undergoing treatment however I know there is a sad bit about him losing his parents but I can't remember the specifics and I don't want to give it to my friend if it's cancer related.

I've been trying to reread it but I'm so knackered from work that I am only managing about a page a night. So I thought I'd ask if anyone on mumsnet had read it and if they could remember what the sad bit was.

I read it years ago and I hate cricket! I just remember it being a gentle, funny book.
maybe check out its reviews on Amazon - people often mention details within books there.

Thanks @Fireblanket - I checked on amazon but nothing other than someone saying in a review that it was sad when his mum died. I don't particularly like cricket either but loved this book!
