Advice for baby with a cold?

Hi,

Both my DC 2 and 8 weeks have a cold.

2yo is managing fine with Calpol, plenty of fluids, quite happily occupied with his toys and cuddles in between. Occasional cough, nothing too bad.

8 week old has watery eyes, seems irritable, plenty of wet nappies, coughing and very stuffy lots of clear snot.

I've never had a baby that's had a cold before, so this part is quite new. He's feeding okay, crying on and off and isn't napping but that's not unusual as he sleeps through.

Neither DC have a temp, is there anything I can do that'll help 8 week old DC? Just seems very unsettled Sad

Poor baby.

Is it 8 weeks when they can start having calpol?

Otherwise look into snufflebabe products.

They have vapour drops - basically really diluted vicks like thing in a bottle that I would drip onto a Muslin cloth to help with stuffiness. I think this can be used from birth but can't remember

Also saline drops in nose if blocked

Thanks so much for the reply, baby is very chesty and mucusy and struggling to sleep as the cough wakes him up Sad

Calpol vapour plug ins are really good for overnight. And one of the snot suckers is a must, although my 4 month old hates it with a passion - it does get the snot out though when he's blocked up!

Definitely recommend salt spray for clearing their nose. It's mildly upsetting for them for a split second but really works. I actually bought some for myself when I had a bad cold in early 2020 (don't think it was covid) and thought it might feel like I was drowning or something but it didn't at all - weirdly comforting actually and again, really helped my breathing.
