Where can I buy an oval pie dish today or tomorrow?

I need a new pie dish for baking on Friday. It's really got to be an oval one to do the type of pie I want. Specifications:

  • About 25cm and 8-10cm deep
  • Preferably with a fluted/ ridged edge for nice crust
  • Most ideally has a pop out base or unclips for easy pie removal. I would take a nice quality ceramic one though.

I'm in London and would travel to get one. Otherwise I'm happy to order via Amazon Prime or get next day delivery.

Lakeland don't seem to have an oval pie dish (the ones I find when Googling have been discontinued). Amazon don't seem to have any fluted ones.

Does anyone know where to get my admittedly rather specific pie dish?

Do you have a TK Maxx near you? They always have oval ceramic pie dishes in the home section.

Robert dyas maybe?

FlibbertyGiblets · 12/10/2021 10:08

Well I have had a look. The nearest I can get is an Exopan
French Professional Heavy Duty Fluted Game Pie Mould (??)

Out of stock.

If you know names of your localish cookshops give them a buzz or how about catering college might have one you could borrow?

The Range had them at the weekend , so did sainsburys, tkmax probably do too
Although not with fluted edges
What kind of pie are you making?

ClaudiaWankleman · 12/10/2021 10:15

I can drive to a TK Maxx but am I right in thinking you can't check stock online there? If so will keep that as a tomorrow night option.
There's a Robert Dyas within walking distance of work so can check that when I am in the office tomorrow.

No idea about a catering college unfortunately - there doesn't seem to be one local.

I thought you could @ClaudiaWankleman, well you can on clothes. Ring them to check maybe?

Have you or anyone you know got Amazon Prime? they deliver same or next day for free.

ClaudiaWankleman · 12/10/2021 10:23

@SentDeliveredRead
It's a game pie which is supposed to be the centrepiece for a birthday celebration at the weekend.

I've just pulled my normal pie dish out of the cupboard and it's somehow got a large crack down one end. I was never that keen on it so I'm not in mourning, but I am now stuck with a large springform cake tin as the alternative!

I know I can make it look fantastic with the right dish (I've got really good at decorating) and none of my usual decoration will translate well to a circular dish. Not to mention that the pie looks best when it's cut into cross sections. A slice just won't have the same wow factor.

If I sound crazy about pies it's because I am

Do you have a big Sainsbury's near you? It looks like they might have them too.

ClaudiaWankleman · 12/10/2021 10:28

Thanks for the tip @SentDeliveredRead however unfortunately TK Maxx don't appear to have anything suitable online - nothing of the right size.

TK Maxx's online offerings are no where near indicative of what they may have in store, so might be worth the journey to the actual store.

John Lewis have some oval ceramic dishes. Order it to come to your local Waitrose for pick up.

TheFlis12345 · 12/10/2021 10:33

Try a catering supplier like Nisbetts. They have branches in Shepherds Bush and Soho. Also might be worth calling Divertimenti in Knightsbridge and seeing if they have one.

TheFlis12345 · 12/10/2021 10:35

Also just remembered Denton’s in Clapham, they usually have a good range.

Andrewthecharminbumwiper · 12/10/2021 10:50

Came on to recommend Dentons in clapham

ODFOgrinch · 12/10/2021 10:57

In your shoes if I couldn't get exactly what I wanted I'd use a loaf tin this time for the good looking cross section slices and keep looking.

PigeonPigPie · 12/10/2021 11:01

Another vote for TKMaxx. Full of stock that isn't online.
