Passport renewal query for any who've done so recently

I've just organised my passport renewal, need it for ID

I've had the email today that the application has been approved and the new passport is being printed and they'll let me know when it's dispatched

I have 2 questions -

1 Roughly how long is it taking from this stage until the passport is delivered?

2 how is it delivered? Is it just through the letterbox or do I need to be ready to sign for it? (I'm disabled and need to be prepared for this kind of delivery ahead of time)

Hope lovely wise mners can help!

Hi!

I renewed mine end of August, from it being approved to being printed was 2 days, and it arrived two days after that.

You need to physically take delivery for the passport - a very official looking woman knocked on my door with a lanyard on, confirmed I was the passport holder and then handed it to me.

Hope that helps!

Cant comment on time scales, because we never got the update saying it was being printed. I wouldnt expect it to be very ling now tho.
The delivery was just shoving it through the letter box - no signature or interaction required.

Cross posts both saying totally different things! Sounds like it is area dependant.

Less than a week.

Secure delivery but they post through the letter box and photographed. I didn't sign.

LIZS · 11/10/2021 22:08

4 or 5 days, through letterbox

Cutemob · 11/10/2021 22:22

2-3 days, the delivery person knocked at the door but it wasn't a signed-for delivery.

Oh crikey mixed responses!

Anyone able to comment on what happened if they weren't in/didn't answer door?

I'm in fear of not knowing it's coming and being in the Bath or something!

@Graphista they just left mine in my letterbox too. 2-3 days after I got the notice to say it was approved.

To add to my comment above - DH was in, working in a room at the front of the house. It was just posted through the letterbox. They didn't even try the bell.

I've received notification today it's on way - via tnt! Saying it can be tracked with x reference number but the ref number which inc 3 letters at the beginning doesn't work with or without the letters and I've never heard of/used tnt before why haven't they used Royal Mail?
