Have you ever slammed the door in someone's face?

I was listening to an audiobook this morning and one of the characters did it. Got me wondering about whether this is still a thing? Was it ever?

I did it once to an ex. Turned up on my doorstep having cycled over (pissed). I had already changed my phone number (days before blocking I think). It was dark and as soon as I saw him I just told him to go away and shut the door behind him. He then snapped my car number plate as he left. I called the police afterwards I think - non emergency number who then must have visited and warned him off.

That was over 20 years ago and I'd forgotten about it until now. Slamming the door is such a 'statement'. What if it had escalated. I didn't think at the time.

Anyway - just got me thinking!

Telly licence enforcement knobber.
God it was satisfying.

blissfulllife · 11/10/2021 15:55

Ex mother in law. Turned up at my new house (ex wouldn't leave our family home and I'd had to move with my kids to a crappy rental in a crappy area as it was all I could afford) to give me a piece of her mind. Think she got about half a sentence in before I slammed that door right in her mush. Felt wonderful

SirenSays · 11/10/2021 16:10

Yeah I have, but God its been some years.

When I was a teenager my parents were strict, so I kept things I wasn't allowed at my best friends houses. Well, we fell out and they decided to cook up a plan to get me into trouble, rather than letting my collect my stuff. They gathered up my things and carried the heavy bags all the way to my house on a Saturday. They thought I'd be out but my parents would be in. Except I was sick that day and my parents were out. When I answered the door they didn't know what to do, I snatched up the bags and slammed the door. Greatly satisfying.

Lol I actually did this this morning.

It was a charity doorstep caller, It's been so long since doorstep callers knocked and as I was waiting for a parcel, I answered.

She looked like someone from Disney, a smile from ear to ear, she greeted me with her opening statement " Hi, I see you're smiling, I'm so happy to see you smiling, are you having a good day", I replied "yes", then she started talking about the weather Confused I asked how I could be of help and when she named the charity, I told her I was already involved in this particular charity, which is true, but, she was sticking to script and started rhyming off about me only having to pay 20 euro per month blah blah blah. I declined, she kept talking, I was getting annoyed, actually I was annoyed when she commented on me smiling, that statement to me is on par when someone says "calm down", "relax", "smile it may never happen", I declined her sell and was closing the door and she muttered something, I didn't hear it fully but her Disney smile was gone, I re opened the door and said "your trainers need to change the greeting, it's annoying and not friendly", and slammed the door Blush, not my finest moment.

Sales person when I was in isolation, waiting on a PCR result. I told him and he said he would step back and speak to me. My response was "No you're not." Then slammed it. I have never done this before and I am usually polite to people who come to the door.

PinkWaterBottle2021 · 11/10/2021 17:27

@Thethreecs what a ridiculous encounter. I'm cross on your behalf. I loathe doorstep charity collectors at the best of times but I'm not surprised that one got a door slam Angry

Yes but I was a teenager. The only time I did it. The reason was because my parents had gone to a parents' evening at school and my dad came home moaning that my German teacher had told them I didn't pay attention in class. I'd just got the highest exam result in the class (and eventually did it as a degree). I was not impressed with her or my dad!

Kljnmw3459 · 11/10/2021 17:33

Only once to my sister, but I had just woken up in the middle of the night and she was standing outside my bedroom door and I got scared thinking she's a murderer but she wasn't. So I did it out of being scared rather than anger.

Anothermuddywalk · 11/10/2021 17:38

Several times with Jehovas witnesses - as soon as they get the book up I just say "no thank you" and shut the door again. They seem to particularly like rocking up early on a Sunday morning and I'll admit I was once less polite after I'd woken up, had to throw on some clothes and run downstairs thinking it was something to do with dh, who was off on a biking weekend...

VirtualLife · 11/10/2021 17:42

Yes just last week. An energy salesman told me to smile when I opened the door so I promptly closed it again, not quite a slam but a firm close Grin

Hellocatshome · 11/10/2021 17:43

I have shut the door in several.peoples faces I have only slammed the door in someone's face once and unfortunately it was an internal.door with lots of glass panels that shattered all over the floor. So I then had to tidy it all up and pay for a new door which annoyed me even more.

HirplesWithHaggis · 11/10/2021 17:58

I did it once, at a friend's house. Her abusive ex was returning some things, I was there (with a couple of Big Blokes) as support. I opened the door, he automatically reached out the bag in his hand. I took it, slammed the door, locked it and pulled the curtains while his jaw was still on the floor. Felt good.

Laiste · 11/10/2021 18:04

No, but i have thrown a drink in someone's face like they do in the movies.

I fancy theatrically slamming a door now!

PinkWaterBottle2021 · 11/10/2021 18:49

@Laiste what happened? I've never done that. It sounds better!

Yes my ex when I threw him out, then I opened the door again to throw his shoes after him. Hoping they hit him on the arse.

Etinoxaurus · 11/10/2021 19:50

I’ve laughed in someone’s face. It was wonderful.

HeronLanyon · 11/10/2021 19:53

When a teenager I went through a door slamming phase. Not ever in someone’s face though. Ni currently have a neighbour with significant mental health issues. She’s taken to opening her door when neighbours pass , being abusive and slamming the door in our faces as we stand there in shock. It’s quite something.

Laiste · 11/10/2021 21:02
@Laiste what happened? I've never done that. It sounds better!
I was 15/16 at a (dark and dingy) house party and a big bloke randomly shoved me against the wall and sort of pinned me there with his arm at full stretch so i couldn't reach him to push him away. I was swearing and upset and he was laughing at me.

I chucked my drink in his face. It was really the only thing i could think of doing. Whole glass of whisky and coke straight up his nose basically. It caught him completely off guard, he was enraged and i had to leg it but it got him off me and it felt good! [:)

HirplesWithHaggis · 11/10/2021 21:06

Quick thinking there, Laiste! Grin

Monster2021 · 11/10/2021 21:09

I did it to my neighbour 2 weeks back. We had an row a few weeks prior and she must have got drunk and felt the need to hammer my door at 11pm to theaten me. I laughed, called her and old lush and slammed the door on her.

LubaLuca · 11/10/2021 21:11

Yes, a Jehovah's Witness who very politely told me I'd be going to hell.

Cheermonger · 11/10/2021 21:13

Yes, I was parked in a hotel car park and went out to my car in the morning to find someone had smashed my windscreen. I was incandescent and stomped back into reception slamming the door, unintentionally into a poor blokes face. It was actually Alan Shearer. SO ashamed 😩

PinkWaterBottle2021 · 11/10/2021 21:54

My goodness some of these are amazing!

Love the drink in nasty man’s face!

Yes, probably not my finest moment. School sent somebody to the house on a safeguarding visit after I had made a complaint about their lack of safeguarding (complaint later accepted by Ofsted so justified complaint) I didn't slam the door, I did though, ask if they had made an appointment and when they said no I said "thought not" and closed the door.

Theunamedcat · 11/10/2021 22:04

I do it all the time to my ex he thinks that if I talk to him about his own children it means i want to sleep with him and tells everyone I'm desperate to get him into bed he even gets his friends on my road as "witnesses" to me trying to get him into bed so every week he escorts 12 year old ds to the door (don't ask he has told his dad he is old enough to walk to his own front door) and every week I slam the door in his face

Its been going on for months he is still convinced I want him back dude I DIVORCED YOU
