How many poos for a formula fed newborn?

My baby is 8 days old, the past 2 or so days he has not been pooing as much as he has, so he had one when he was changed around 3pm on Friday and then one this morning around 1am. Nothing since. He isn't very windy. He hasn't took much milk today. He doesn't cry much apart from when he is has his nappy changed. I am clueless as a FTM and don't know where to turn, is this a cause for concern? Midwife not available at weekend.

I was told it's only a concern if no poo for 4-5 days

All 3 of mine only ever went every 2-3 days.

They only drank tiny amounts of milk though, never the recommended amount, so they were never going to go more than that.

At such a young age I think going a day without pooing is unusual, and combined with not taking much milk today I'd be concerned enough to seek a medical opinion. If you're sure there's no community midwives available on a weekend you can probably just call the maternity ward or 111.

That's a good idea @SpamIAm. If you're at all worried they don't mind if you give them a ring

If he’s taking less milk than usual, keep an eye out for dehydration.

Sorry, I read your post too fast. Mine only ever drank small amounts from birth (my baby now was the worst one, topped of at only 15oz in 24 when she was 10 months! But she is growing fine and that was usual for her, no one medical had any concerns ever, she just wasn’t a big milk drinker).

So if it’s only happened suddenly, keep a look out for dehydration signs abs call 111 for advice today if you need to. They are pretty quick off the mark with under ones.

Formula fed babies don't tend to poo as frequently as breastfed.
Is the poo soft? Does his tummy feel soft?
If uou are worried I would call the maternity unit, but I'm sure it's within normal range.
