Friend's son imminently turning 1.

Parents very keen to limit 'stuff'.

I'd like to have given an activity/ subscription/ membership type of present, but budget can only stretch to £15 max so not really doable.

Any inspiration for alternatives?

Some picture books.

Board books with lift flaps. Just 1-2.

Long sleeved wipeable bib for wearing when eating.

Metal beaker type water bottle thing for our and about. Just bought our 1 year old a nice one from ‘trixie’

Trip to the fancy soft play near me ms a voucher for cake when we're there.

Donation to the local city farm... it sure whether £15 would officially adopt an animal, but you could knock up a certificate with lots of animal pics to keep a little one happy.

A disco light. Dancing colorful lights and shapes, all little ones love them. Rechargeable and very small, parents love them too.

Finger paints and paper. When it's gone, it's gone.

How about a toy from Whirli toy subscription? The toy is effectively a gift card to be swapped when done so something that the child will love (for 10 minutes like most babies) but won't be cluttering up the house for long.

Something for the bath? Bath book, bath crayons, bath disco light. Or baby-friendly bath fizzers... my DC has always adored these!

Why not finger paints ?

The kind of parent who doesn't want 'clutter' sounds like someone who doesn't like mess and won't do things like painting. So either they embrace it and let their LO have the experience, or they get left with 'clutter'!

Oh got not finger paints. I’m afraid if someone gave my 1 year old those they would be straight off to charity/ the bin

Hobbycraft do some my first Crayola pencils and a colouring book that would be within budget. My daughter is 1 and loves colouring 😀. They should last a good while and don't take up much room

Voucher for soft play.

Book, preferably one that will last well. You can get some lovely board books with recorded bird songs - e.g. "The Little Book of Garden Bird Songs".

Which has given me another idea - bird feeder for the garden and guide to bird identification (the book listed above or a different one). Or just the bird feeder if both would take you over budget.

My DD loved finger painting.
You just had to wrap her up well and corral her until cleaned up.

Do you have a local child friendly museum /petting zoo / activity that you could get them a voucher for? If not I'd go for clothes.

Cute pair of wellie boots. My daughter got a pair for her christening, I loved them and so did she. These weren’t the normal box standard boots, these were patterned and unique.

On the finger paints debate, I would love them as a gift since I've always done lots of painting with my DC including as a baby (mostly in the highchair!). But I'm not anti-clutter and I know many parents who prefer to leave messy things like painting to nursery.

A voucher for an activity Center near to them. My SIL got my DD a voucher to a place near us and it was lovely to be able to have a free(ish) Day out as a family

Finger paints and an afternoon of babysitting when you do the finger painting with her!
