Burnt hand hurts as soon as it's out of cold water

Quite a bad burn. I did the 10 mins under cold running water and then it's been in and out of a bowl of iced water since. It's been 2 hours but still hurts so much being out of the water for more than a few minutes. Any tips or do I just need to deal with the pain? Can't keep it in water forever ☹️

soak a tea towel in cold water then wrap round hand

ragged · 09/10/2021 19:31

Pic?
2 hours is a long time for it to still be very painful.

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 09/10/2021 19:31

Wrap it in cling film, it keeps it clean and stops the air getting to it which is what causes the pain. Then keep it in the water

Yes to cling film. You need to keep the air off it.

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 09/10/2021 19:33

Don't put any fabric (teatowel) directly on the burn without clingfilming it first as the fibres may stick.

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 09/10/2021 19:33

What can you see? It may be time to seek medical attention.

ftw163532 · 09/10/2021 19:34

Seek proper medical advice.

Raindancer411 · 09/10/2021 19:34

I would go and get it looked at

Branleuse · 09/10/2021 19:34

Burns do bloody hurt. Not much you can do except paracetamol and try and take your mind off it

sparklefarts · 09/10/2021 19:35

How big is the burn?

Knockoneofftheshelftowin · 09/10/2021 19:35

Aloe Vera gel is good for burns.

happytoday73 · 09/10/2021 19:35

Photo?
Bit generally agree with previous posters...you need medical advice

DariaMorgendorffer · 09/10/2021 19:37

Burns are sooooo painful, even the smallest of them. Get it checked out op, even by local pharmacy as a start. You have my sympathy Thanks

miniwolf · 09/10/2021 19:40

Thank you! I've put cling film on it then ice packs wrapped in a tea towel! I don't think it warrants a&e - there isn't much to see apart from a bit of swelling

OP posts:
Clocktopus · 09/10/2021 19:43

If its bigger than the palm of your hand or it has blisters then you need to get it checked out, ditto if it's a chemical or electrical burn.

There is advice here on how to treat it and what to watch out for, including when to seek medical advice:

Will keep this on for now 😐

What does the burn look like? My DS2 had 3rd degree burns and it needed treatment

miniwolf · 09/10/2021 19:46

Thank you @Clocktopus

I'll send a photo of my actual hand when I change it but I don't think there is really a visible chang

Hi OP - I burnt my hand like this once at supper time, it f-ing hurt all evening and I had to sleep with my hand in a bowl of water (didn’t wet the bed like urban myth says Grin) but in the morning it was ok. I saw a nurse who bandaged it up but basically it fixed itself. Good luck Flowers

Crunchymum · 09/10/2021 19:48

Don't put anything (aloe vera etc) on it.

Also the advice is for lukewarm water and no ice!!!

Wrap it in cling film

frumpety · 09/10/2021 19:51

I think a lot depends on how it was burnt , how big the burn site is and 10 minutes probably isn't long enough tbh, pretty sure half an hour would be better, can you fill something deep with water and put your hand in it ?

HandScreen · 09/10/2021 19:52

Call 111
