Kings Canterbury Help

Hi all! Hoping there might be some Kings parents or other parents like me in the admissions process currently. DS is currently Y6, registered with Kings for 2024 entry. He is sitting his ISEB this November. DS has registered with a few boarding schools but we have really found Kings to be the least communicative by far. We did a virtual open day in Y5 but have been told there’s no chance of us visiting the school until after Jan 2022. We drove out to Canterbury to have a walk around the city and get a feel for it which was great, but it’s very difficult to get sneak peaks of the actual school as it’s mostly behind stone walls etc. We’ve had no “next steps” email from Kings as we have done with the other boarding schools (which have also managed to get everyone onto campus this term if haven’t visited previously). Has anyone else found the admissions process at Kings to be quite cold? I’ve only heard good things about the school so find it totally bizarre! I would be incredibly grateful for any feedback on Kings itself and also from others in the application process possibly experiencing the same thing?! Thank you!

King's is certainly not a cold-hearted school. It is a modern school with many options, and an international outlook. My DS is in Year 10. When he was in Year 6, he received a conditional offer based on a school report and a reference by the head master. He was not in a prep school. He did a test at King's in Year 8. It was worth it, he loves life at King's. My wife and I were unfamiliar with boarding schools, but we have become big fans of King's.

Just wanted to follow up to see if there are any other mums or dads out there with children applying for 2024 entry? If so have you heard from Kings regarding their timeline and if there are next steps after having sat the ISEB? Thanks!

They do offer private visits, but they are not probably what you really need, as you are currently not allowed to enter any of the buildings. It is quite hard to reach a decision on this basis, particularly given most other similar schools are offering open days again. We have heard nothing since the email saying that ISEB was needed although I gather that offers are due out sometime this term.

You might get more responses if you move this thread to education by the way.

Thanks bringbackspirabars - is there an easy way for me to move the chat to education?

You need to press the report button on your message and ask for it to be moved.

We have just received confirmation of 2024 entry today. I agree they could have had more communication.
