What's your favourite European holiday destinations?

Planning a holiday for next June. I will be a solo female traveller so would like somewhere that feels 'safe'. Looking for somewhere I can sit by the pool and read all day. Maybe go for a walk in the afternoons. Most recently been to tsilivi (zante) with family and Cala Millor (Majorca) solo.
Also have the potential to go on short city breaks at other times of the year so.
After a couple of years with no travel I'm looking forward to a week on the sun and a bit of exploration.

Wherever you go I would suggest booking an adults only all inclusive. There will be offers of coach trips - or you can go off by yourself. I have always found people to be very friendly on these holidays. Personally, my favourite destination is Crete and I’m hoping to go back next year. I would also suggest booking with a company and booking yourself. That way, you always have the back up of a local representative if anything should go wrong.

I can’t work out how to link with my phone but there’s a thread in Chat at the moment called “So I went on holiday on my own” with some ideas.

My favourite is paphos in Cyprus. Loads to do, great weather, food, beaches, friendly people

ArtfulScreamer · 09/10/2021 09:08

We love Cyprus usually go to Paphos in October but this year as I wanted a shorter flight we've come to Majorca but I've spent most of my time wishing we were in Cyprus

Lake Garda
Sicily
Greek islands
Madeira

Also consider Sark in the channel islands

Watch travel man with Richard Ayoade for ideas - it’s on channel 4

I loved Bratislava as a city break alone and enjoyed Corfu with friends, not sure if I would have liked it as much alone though.

I'll have a look for that thread.

Quite a few votes for Cyprus, somewhere I've never been but could be good with its links to Greece since I love Greek food.

I second Madeira. Feels very safe. Hotel we stayed in had self-catering options. Great pool and gardens. Easy to catch bus into Funchal or you could walk, mainly along seafront prom, which I did on my own a few times. Never felt unsafe. Eating out prices reasonable for excellent quality and service. overlooking the sea. English widely spoken everywhere.

Paphos area much nicer than Protaras area. Lots more exploring to do if you like old ruins, Latchi is meant to be gorgeous and if you're a meat eater the Last Castle restaurant is meant to be a great experience.

I really like Madeira too. Or what about a couple of the Saronic Islands, Spetses, Hydra, Poros, Aegina. They're close to Athens (so hectically busy in Summer) if you wanted a day there seeing the Acropolis etc. Good swimming, food, pottering, safe as can be.

For city breaks, I have very much liked Lyon. It been quite spruced up in recent years and it's a lovely city, on the Saone and the Rhone. Great food. I also really enjoyed Helsinki. Another beautiful city, great architecture, good for wandering. A bit of a change from the usual destinations.

For a city break - Venice!
