Can't sleep. Covid plus work worries 😟

I have got up and come downstairs as I was going crazy trying to sleep.

I slept earlier but then woke up and can't get back off again no matter what I do. Tried listening to an easy audio book, which usually does the trick for me , but nothing is working this morning.

I have covid right now and can't stop coughing... not constantly but enough to keep me awake.

I am also fretting about work, lots of worries going round in my head about stuff that I haven't done, decisions that I'm struggling to take etc.

How can I relax and get some more rest?

You may as well stay up now.

Get some work done maybe and use the time.

Thanks @underneaththeash, I see the logic in that but I've been up since 3.30am and I feel like my body probably needs the sleep in order to fight off the virus? Or is that rubbish? Not sure I feel sufficiently "with it" to focus on work right now anyway.

What do you need to do today? Do you have young children to look after? If not I would probably make a hot drink, maybe have something to eat if you feel like it, possibly a bath then try to go back to sleep in an hour or so. With work you are ill, call in sick and pass on some of the decisions.

I don't actually need to do anything today. DD is old enough to look after herself, so I could go back to bed later. I had been planning to catch up on work stuff but maybe it will have to wait. I wish I could switch off and forget about it.

I've just had a lemsip. Maybe I'll eat some toast or something.

Do you have any codeine or cocodomol in the house? If so and you can, take some and go back to bed. Codeine supresses coughs and should knock you out enough to sleep. Hope you feel better soon!

Samanabanana · 09/10/2021 06:15

Obviously don't take any if you've already taken medication though!

Poor you. Feeling ill and tired heightens your worries and stops you being a able to think rationally. I would make a hot drink, get cosy on the sofa, write a quick work to do list, put it away and out of your mind, then put a nice film/ programme on and relax. You'll probably drop off but if not at least your mind can engage with the tv instead.

Thank you.

I didn't know that about codeine @Samanabanana. I've already taken paracetamol in the lemsip so I can't take anything else now, but it's good to know for the future.

Making a list is probably a good idea @Iwab82. I'll try that now.

I've made myself a bagel and am sitting on the sofa. Can't work out if it's just hot or if I'm feverish. Left the thermometer upstairs and can't be bothered to go and get it.
