Do pilots love their job?

I was watching firefighting helicopters flying overhead yesterday wondered this Grin Do they get an adrenaline rush every time they're called out or just think 'here we go again, I was enjoying my coffee...'?

Similarly, airline pilots. Is it just another day at work for them or do they high five each other every time they land a jet and shout 'Nailed it!' 🤔

I’m ex cabin crew. All the pilots I met in my flying days were plane nerds. They loved their jobs and enjoyed reading magazines about planes, talking about planes, going to air shows etc.

Interesting! It must be one of the coolest jobs ever but to have the safety of hundreds of people in your hands every day is a frightening thought.

Did you ever have moments when you thought 'this could be it today'? Shock

No I love flying. I actually did about 30 hours of pilot training myself, in a little Cessna light aircraft. It was always a massive adrenalin rush!

My scariest moments when cabin crew were medical emergencies rather than anything to do with the plane.

I know a BA pilot very well. He loves his work and is a real physics geek so finds it fascinating but doesn’t get an adrenaline rush doing it, no.

I have a PPL (h) and know a lot of helicopter pilots. They love it - it’s in their blood. Never date a pilot though. They are all the same.

I’ve two pilots in my immediate family and it really is just a job for them. One they like doing though and I can’t say they’re obsessed with it as described above.

In truth I think it’s probably more exciting for the family members who fly with them sometimes as passengers.

I've always wondered this. During the summer months, for example, when they're probably back and forth to Spain several times a week, are they bored senseless? But then again I suppose you could say this about many, many jobs.

ShirleyPhallus · 09/10/2021 20:27

A friend of mine is a pilot and says there is so little actual flying involved as so much is on auto pilot that he finds it really boring

He said he spends the whole flight just waiting for the landing these days

I know a comercial pilot, he loves his job but admits he always knew he was going to be a pilot, if he had not been one he would have been a bus or train driver! Grin
