Infrared thermometer - forehead or wrist?

I have covid and am feeling quite feverish. My infrared thermometer says that my temperature is normal. (37 degrees, which is on the high end of normal for me but definitely no fever).

If I scan my wrist, it says 39.1. Google seems to suggest that wrist readings are sometimes taken.

Is it likely that either of these readings is accurate or is the reality probably somewhere in between? I'm inclined to believe the wrist reading because I feel lousy, but maybe I'm imagining it?!Confused

I’ve never heard of anyone taking a temperature reading from a wrist.
Where is your thermometer designed to be used with?!

Unless you have a baseline temp for your wrist it's probably not accurate. Also surely you would be cooler there as it's further away from your core?

I think if you were 39 degrees on an extremity you'd be far too ill to be wondering this kind of thing let alone posting coherently on Mumsnet, so I think the high end of normal temp is probably the right one.

Ok, thanks both. It's probably meant for use on the forehead, I've long since lost the instructions. I just feel typically feverish - hot and cold all at once so started to doubt it.

Maybe my body just starts to feel feverish at around 37 degrees? It's normally quite a bit lower.

Most likely - that would be a raised temperature but not a fever.

Do you have an armpit or ear or oral thermometer? Those are a bit more accurate than a forehead one.

Hope you're feeling better this morning anyway :)
