What do you eat when you’re not cooking for anyone else?

DH and DS are away for half-term and whilst I’ll miss them, I’m looking forward to not cooking on the evenings and will probably have toast or cereal or crisp sandwiches most evenings.

Not only that, I will have them by 6 and have the whole evening to myself.

What would you have in the same situation?

Fruit loaf toasted with lots of butter.
Cheese on toast
Scrambled egg on toast
Bacon sandwich
Take away

I often make pizza just for me, making the dough and adding very tasty toppings. Another night I would possibly have olives, nice cheese and crackers with a lovely chutney, and the next night, something with smoked salmon, maybe fresh pasta and cream cheese. All with nice wine 🍷

My kids have all left home now but it's still quite a thrill if my husband is out or away and I'm just cooking for myself! I get quite excited with the planning of it all 😂

1.Favourite thing to make when I'm on my own is an omelette made with cheese and mushroom with an easy salad on the side.

  1. Frozen shop pizza base with pesto spread over over and cooked.
  2. Baked vegies ( potato, pumpkin, broccoli, carrots) with mint sauce!

Grilled steak or lamb steak, with veggies. Finally, something that doesn't have flippin chilli in.

Has no one mentioned a fish finger butty yet? Served on white bread, ketchup one side, Mayo on the other and add some rocket. Yum!

My husband sometimes goes away for work, I usually make a pot of soup and have that with crusty bread and butter or a m and ready meal.

I usually have some pick n mix! I live dolly mixtures and my husband hates them so I have that.

Pan fried halloumi on a salad of greens, sunflower seeds, avocado with balsamic glaze dressing
Really good quality bread and Camembert.

Scrambled eggs topped with feta and salad

lifecoachingandotherbollocks · 08/10/2021 23:11

Just quick and easy or snacks or take away

Buck rarebit - Welsh rarebit with a poached egg on top Smile

StevieNix · 08/10/2021 23:22

Crusty bread and pate would be my current choice, or ham salad sandwiches with really nice quality ham, lots of salad and some Mayo in good quality bread.

londonmummy1966 · 08/10/2021 23:27

I'd go to M&S and load up on deli stuff and their pots of salads plus some rainbow tomatoes and lots of expensive fruit like raspberries and strawberries, proper plums comice pears etc

plesiosaurus · 09/10/2021 04:15

Steak. Cooked rare. DH hates it so I never cook it as a rule.
Spaghetti carbonara. Again, DH is not a fan of it, so rarely cook it otherwise.
Potted shrimps as a treat.
A really nice salad with a good homemade dressing.
Some nice dim sum from the Chinese supermarket.
Not that keen on alcohol, but I'd make sure I had nice sparkling water and Fentiman's ginger beer in the house.
Unfortunately now DH is retired he doesn't often go away on his own - one of the few downsides, as I like an evening in to myself!

Thursa · 09/10/2021 04:21

I’m much too lazy to cook when I’m on my own. I’d live of sandwiches and microwave meals.

DinkBoo · 09/10/2021 08:16

Last time DH was away for 10 days I planned indulgent (reasonably healthy) ready meals and olive-type snack meals.

Then I actually mainly lived off toast, and fruit. It was so liberating to just not give a damn about food (DH doesn't cook at all).

@itsutterlyshit

Pasta, melted butter, tuna and cheese. Sounds vile but tastes delicious.
Actually sounds delicious!
