Facebook Marketplace is it me?

LouMoo13 · 08/10/2021 16:14

I'm having a clear out and selling some bits on Marketplace, I'm used to eBay but these items are better suited to Marketplace. I've got myself some great stuff as a buyer so thought I'd give it a go...

I'm just finding so many people are time wasters... asking stupid questions, getting as far as arranging collection and not turning up... etc...

Argh! Please tell me it's not just me! Confused

Yep, same with gumtree, people message within minutes of ad being on wanting it half price and delivered . I now reply to everyone on asks if it’s still available and the first one to say yes when can I collect gets it , so long as it’s not in a weeks time etc

SophieKaczynsky · 08/10/2021 16:38

There is someone local to me who replies to anything and everything on FB marketplace and on local selling groups with 'Wud U tk eny less?'

I think FB seems to attract twat buyers

Try giving something away free, then you really have fun.

Will you deliver it? No, it’s free, you can fucking pick it up.

I always regret not just putting it in a charity bag.

MayorGoodwaysChicken · 08/10/2021 16:44

The best one was when I was giving away free a load of furniture from my Gran’s house after she died. The furniture was in London and someone asked me to deliver it to them in fucking Luton.

I put some old scratched plates on Facebook to offer for free for crafts (mixing paint etc) I was asked if I was selling plates with hair on. Why would I sell hairy plates???

I've given away the odd thing on our local residents page but not dealt with craziness like that!

It's not just you. There's a lot of tossers about. At the moment I think it's partly because covid restrictions have ended (mostly) so people are going to proper shops because they can or spending their money on going out. I was selling loads during lockdown, now I'm lucky if I get any messages at all and those are usually from time wasters. I've deleted all my ads. I'm donating what I can to charity (the shops here aren't taking donations yet) and the rest is going into the recycling/landfill bins.

TokyoSushi · 08/10/2021 16:53

I actually quite enjoy the fuckwittery, but you're all right, it's like a twilight zone!

Somebody once asked me to meet them at a train station with a dining table!!

Burnerphone21 · 08/10/2021 16:59

I am really firm that it's collection and I'm home every evening as I think that's reasonable.

However when we moved few years back I gave away small child furniture that had seen better days. There was a toddler table and chairs set. I had a message pleading for it but no transport. I drive all over the city for work so I took a punt. I said where are you - he said I'm in x district. I said look as it happens I'm going close to there in the morning, I'll be in the lidl car park at 9 see you there. I met a lovely dad who (I speculate) looked like he was going through a hard time who gratefully took the stuff almost tearful and actually tried to pay me for them. It made up for the fuckwittery I know I will encounter for years to come 😂

I had one just the other day. Asked if available, yup.. would I take X amount, ok… I say I’m in Y location when would you like to collect.. can you deliver? No sorry. Oh well then I can’t I’m buy it.

Like why not ask the delivery bit first rather than wasting both our time.

Squiff70 · 08/10/2021 17:04

No sigh it's not just you. FB Marketplace is a breeding ground for numtpies, time-wasters, extreme hagglers and utter dickheads. I have had lots of genuine sales at the asking price but the number of idiots outweighs the number of genuines.
