Im looking for some advice.
We bought a small piece of land in our village a few years ago and a handful of residents including the local mayor and some of the elected Cllrs do not agree with the purchase. For context the land in question is tiny and will be used as a vegetable garden. They believe we shouldn't have been allowed to buy it and act as though it does not belong to us. If I mow the lawn/ cut the hedge or do anything the local mayor trespasses, takes pictures, and harasses us. He harasses anyone who does work on the land and he ignores the fact it is private property. I have witness statement and videos/ pictures of him doing so. He also knocks on our door and threatens us (with things like ' stop or you will see') in the name of the Council and tells us he will never stop.
The police have been informed and crime numbers filed but at this stage not much can be done.
I have a solicitor on standby for letters and appropriate injunctions but its expensive and I cant have it done against the entire town council.
I contacted the Town Council to file a complaint (cc'ed district council members too) and after some back and forth with them (essentially them telling me that the Mayor doesnt believe he is harassing anyone and isnt sorry but will not come on our property again )a Clerk but has told me I could file a complaint but to also "Please note under the present legislative regime the sanctions available to a Standards Committee do not extend to suspension or disqualification of an elected Member"
Essentially he can do all this and nothing will happen to him.
We live in a fairly large town.
I dont think this is right at all.
Im thinking of going to the papers with this but -is there anything else I could do?
