Anyone tried the pillow-plane hack?

Flying from London to Scotland this weekend, with a miniscule luggage allowance.

Do you think I could stuff a zipped pillowcase with my big winter coat and a thick jumper so that I don't have to use baggage space?

Apparently most airlines count a pillow as a comfort item so its a 'free' extra, so what do you think mu chances are?

If you're coming to Edinburgh, don't bother. It's so mild at the minute, you would bake in either a jumper or a big coat, never mind both together!

Surely you would be easier wearing them for all of the 10 minutes you would need to?

I've definitely gone through boarding wearing a lot of clothes as my answer to tiny luggage allowances. Don't think I'd risk a pillow.

It's about 18 degrees in Glasgow just now, so not quite big coat weather.

Wet, though. Bring a cagoule.

I have a 'flying outfit' all picked.out, so my jumper and anorak will ruin the ensemble! Grin

Flying outfit??

I don’t think anyone will be looking at you and judging your outfit.

If it’s a flying outfit meant for comfort- then no issue, you take them off in the place as you sit down.

If it’s a flying outfit to look ‘right’ - seriously, no one cares what you’re wearing and really won’t notice. It is also not likely to be a factor in getting you an upgrade or anything.

'Flying outfit' was tongue-in-cheek, but thank you, judgey-judgepants! Grin

I'm going somewhere special, and want to look nice! Not like I'm off fell-walking!

I think if you take a pillowcase stuffed with a coat and jumper it will look unduly suspicious!
