Postman and delivery driver !

Is it ' normal' for the postman and a few delivery drivers to attempt to open your door to leave mail/parcels ?
I always lock my front door, mainly as I have Dc , I have indoor cats and don't want anyone freely walking into my house.

This week, 2 delivery drivers have attempted to open my door to deliver parcels ( Car on drive , lights on/tv on, clearly see someone is in but before knocking , they've attempted to open the door.
I have questioned as to why they attempted to open my door and was met with an awkward giggle from both.
I told them not to do that again.
Today, I was unloading my shopping, I closed the door behind me but didnt lock it as still had stuff to bring in, the postman opened my door and chucked my letters and 2parcels into hallway.
No knock at all.
I opened the door and told him he had no right to do that. He shrugged and walked away.
I am about to call Royal Mail as I have told the same postman to not open my door before.
I'm bit cross about it!!

I don’t know if it’s ‘normal’ but we unfortunately have a few arsey ones who do. I have one who is particularly bad for it. I was upstairs having a shower and came downstairs to find the kitchen door wide open and a parcel in the kitchen. Dd was like, oh a man came with a parcel for you! She hadn’t opened the door, only heard him come in from where she was in the lounge. It’s creepy. We don’t normally lock our doors here (very rural), even at night, but it’s certainly made me think twice about it!

I think if they can take a photo of the parcel left in the actual house rather than outside, they cover themselves against loss or theft.

@mindutopia please no matter how rural you are......lock your door. Maybe because of your rural location I'd advise a bit more caution.

No its not normal at all. Not one delivery person has ever tried my door as I too have house cats plus I'm pretty cautious. If I heard a delivery person trying my door I'd definitely be making a complaint.

One of my postmen does this too. I’m not sure which one. At first it was DC who alerted me to it. They said he had tried the handle (it’s always locked) and I thought DC was imagining it but I’ve since heard him doing it myself.

Our Hermes man does this but we know him and he's a gem. He knows if car is there but I don't answer it's because I'm on a work call or tied up with DD so he just opens front door just enough to get the parcel inside. But I wouldn't like a random delivery person opening it wide or coming inside!
