4 weeks of diarrhoea! Help

I've had diarrhoea for 4 weeks. It happens a few times a day. I have to be near a toilet or there could be an accident! I feel washed out now and my tongue is scallopy. Feel a bit of discomfort in my stomach but no real symptoms.

I've not changed anything. I have a blood test next week to rule anything out and need to take in a stool sample. It goes away if I take Imodium but then a few hours later it is back!

Any ideas? The poo also seems to smell vile. Getting pretty sick of it now. Everyone else in my house is fine so can't see how it is contagious. Any ideas? Not heard of a bug like this. I've been having multi vitamins and berocca to try to boost me as it's leaving me feeling urgh.

C diff?
Stool sample is a good idea.

I had it for 9 weeks a few years ago - lost a stone, tests were inconclusive although private sigmoidoscopy in week 8 indictated that I was getting better from a "bowel infection".

Consultant suspected giardia even though the stool samples didn't show it, as the parasite doesn't shed in every BM.

It went away on its own and never returned. What does your GP say, have you had any tests?

C-diff

And your getting dehydrated

Maybe ease off the berocca? It made me have runny poo not full blown diarrhea but definitely I need the loo now territory

Has the Dr prescribed you anything or are they saying it should "run its natural course"

IBS or anxiety??

I think its the berocca. I tried that 3 separate times and I vomited every single time! My sister gets diarrhoea from it too.

purplesequins · 07/10/2021 13:37

giardia?
do you have pets?

bloodywhitecat · 07/10/2021 13:49

C-Diff possibly, my baby had it recently and it took weeks to clear up.

dontgobaconmyheart · 07/10/2021 16:22

Presumably the stool sample will rule out most of the obvious suspects, c diff, giardia etc so I'd be prompt getting that submitted and see what the results are.

Berocca is unlikely to help. Instead I'd switch to a plain diet that's easy on the gastric system (brat diet, bone broths etc), and utilise electrolyte drinks such as dioralyte or nuun to replace lost hydration instead of berocca, which will be much more beneficial to how you feel.

I would also ask the GP about testing for coeliac disease.

HemanOrSheRa · 07/10/2021 16:29

I'd lay off the berocca due to the vit C content. High doses of vit C can cause diarrhoea. So while they might not be the cause, they won't be helping.

PompomDahlia · 07/10/2021 19:16

Go easy on the vitamins, especially Berocca. Have you tried cutting your diet back to stuff like rice and chicken? Try low Fodmap foods to avoid irritation

Littlebitfedup · 20/02/2023 19:10

I know this is very old but iv had exactly the same for almost 4 weeks and wonder what cleared yours up?

FrenchBoule · 20/02/2023 21:00

Have you taken any antibiotics recently?

lovemypuppa · 20/02/2023 21:01

What is C-diff?
