Do you have to get partially undressed for M&S bra fitting?

Considering going but don't want to do that

Leaving aside the fact that M&S are considered to be crap at bra fitting, I don't think it's something you can do without removing clothing.

SoupDragon · 07/10/2021 08:49

I don't know what the current recommended online "measure at home" technique is (boob or bust maybe?) but that might be a better option if you prefer privacy (I do!)

TakeYourFinalPosition · 07/10/2021 08:49

Yes, in my experience.

But they are also woeful at bra fitting, so I’d consider elsewhere! They’ve got an awful reputation.

I would much rather measure at home but have no idea how

OP posts:
PurpleDaisies · 07/10/2021 08:51

They’ve looked at what size I was wearing and how that fitted, then suggested others based on that to get a better fit.

It’s difficult to see how you could do that properly with a top on.

Bravissimo are much better in my opinion.

Google "boob or bust" for measuring instructions. Post your measurements here if you're not sure and need some help!

Don't go to M and S!

ssd · 07/10/2021 08:53

Can you take someone with you to look for them?

WhoSaid · 07/10/2021 08:53

Have a look online at "boob or bust" method - they're also on Facebook

You do it yourself & I put details into calculator online

M&S are awful

Google 'boob or bust' measuring, after years of poorly fitting bras, I'm finally wearing the perfect size!
PurpleDaisies · 07/10/2021 08:53

Cross posted. Lots of posters swear by the boob or bust method.

You could go to a shop and try on a variety of cup and band sizes until you find one that seems right. Measuring around your ribs just under your boobs will give the band size.

PurpleDaisies · 07/10/2021 08:54

Cross posted with literally the whole of mumsnet recommending BoB!

Soontobe60 · 07/10/2021 08:55

My M+S are great at bra fitting!
Yes, you take your top off but not your bra to be measured. They then brought me a range of bras in the size they’d measured. Seems like I was actually wearing the wrong style of bra for my shape. They got it spot on and I bought 4 bras there and then!

PumpkinGal · 07/10/2021 08:56

Ah thanks!

I wouldn't mind being in a bra. Just don't want my boobs out in front of a stranger

I used a couple of online measuring guides and then went and tried on a few similar sizes.

I used to like M&S bras but for the past few years I just haven't found their makes to fit well. I ended up at John Lewis which were much better for me.

girlmom21 · 07/10/2021 08:59

You don't have to get your boobs out. They'll measure you in your current bra then make some suggestions of styles dependent on what you want from a bra.

They'll then get some for you to try and leave you to change then come back and adjust straps etc.

Boux Avenue are very good.

RowanAlong · 07/10/2021 09:10

Second Bravissimo, not M&S. they’re very discreet, it’s what they do all day and they’ll have loads in stock once they’ve figured out what size/style you need.

WhatsTheEffingPoint · 07/10/2021 09:37

Bravissimo have a video on their website about how to measure and check your fit etc. They also have online chats or you can call and they talk you through things. I've used this when I have been able to get to their shops.

I normally try to go to their shops to be fitted, top comes off, bra stays on, measurements taken, styles talked about, bras come in, lady goes out, change bras, she comes back in and we discuss fit etc....no boobs out (though I imagine some people are more comfortable and don't mind)

PumpkinGal · 07/10/2021 13:14

The boob or bust says I'm a 36HH!

Cant be right as I'm currently in a 36E which is baggy as I've lost 3 stone!

Did you pull the under bust measurement as tight as possible?

I see this a lot. I think people only like this method because their B cups come out as D's.

Get measured properly. You might find you need different sizes dependant on style.

BertieBotts · 07/10/2021 13:41

Despite the fact the M&S method gave me a negative cup size for many years :o their method (+4 inches to band size before calculating cup difference) actually fits me better. BoB fittings are much too tight for me to the point I can't actually breathe in the bras without straining the material Confused

But I don't need support from a bra so I tend to just buy stretchy ones from Primark these days.

Rainbowshit · 07/10/2021 14:14

you don;t need to get your boobs out but they will need to see a bra on you. Don't go to M&S though.

starfish4 · 07/10/2021 14:28

DD and myself went to M&S. They needed to see us both in the bras for fit, but didn't need to see us without them. They were lovely, totally non judgemental.

emmathedilemma · 07/10/2021 14:42

I did boob or bust and it told me my measurements weren't possible!
Can't go to Bravismo because they don't stock smaller sizes :(
I did a bra fitting once in the wonderbra shop at the outlet and the one they convinced me was a good fit was so tight I never wore it!

If you measure 36 under bust then try a selection of cups on that back size. Do you still measure the same under your bust as you did before you lost weight?
