Best Edinburgh restaurants

We have a family celebration in Edinburgh. I know there are millions of restaurants but I'd really like personal recommendations for a couple of lovely meals, ideally at least one a proper Scottish menu and a bit of a celebration, but flexible for other meals.
Ideally central or leith areas
Not too ££££ if possible

Also able to cater for veggies and gluten free!

Thanks in advance

Kismot. St. Leonard's Street.

HarrisMcCoo · 06/10/2021 20:33

Kismot is family run and they cater to all different dietary needs.

Thanks - sadly my folks aren't keen on Indian/spicy food.

Ideally looking for Scottish/ British food options

The Witchery.

Bluntness100 · 06/10/2021 22:01

Personally I really like the Witchery by the castle for something special and good Scottish produce.

Fishers in Leith is great if you all like fish.

Elizabethtailor · 06/10/2021 22:02

Balmoral brasserie. Contini fun Italian in old bank on George Street. The Dome-again an old bank, very cool setting on George Street. Fishers. The Tom Kitchin restaurants- although I think one might now have gone bust. Castle Terrace?

MadamMedea · 06/10/2021 22:02

The Lookout by Gardeners Cottage is absolutely gorgeous and fits the bill for the type of food you want. It’s a bit pricey though so worth your checking the menu first.

Elizabethtailor · 06/10/2021 22:03

The Prestonfield

Ethelfromnumber73 · 06/10/2021 22:03

The Scran and Scally in Stockbridge.

2typesofjungle · 06/10/2021 22:05

Angels with bagpipes for good Scottish food,
Contini's on George Street for Italian Scottish,
Bon Vivant for Scottish with a twist and good atmosphere

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 06/10/2021 22:06

There's a great French bistro called Chez Jules. Great food and atmosphere and really food value too.

Chiliprepper · 06/10/2021 22:06

For leith:

Little chartroom - small, little pricey but not super expensive, great menu

Walnut on leith walk - BYO bistro, really great food

Teuchters landing in leith for pub food/atmosphere

Printing press on George st or Howies on Waterloo place in town for Scottish menus/family celebrations

Chiliprepper · 06/10/2021 22:08

Other more central options a bit fancier could be Fhior, Apiary or Aizle

Nanananani · 06/10/2021 22:10

The grainstore 100%on Victoria st. Really lovely. Witchery beautiful but food offer disappointing, their sister restaurant rhubarb at prestonfield on the other hand is brilliant

Wedgwood on the Royal Mile. We had our wedding meal there, and subsequent meals. It's superb in every way; local produce, personal service, the best wine I've ever had!

WaltzingBetty · 07/10/2021 07:50

Ooh great! Thanks!
Lots of ones here I've not heard of!
