Groan ... I thought this kind of thing had had it's day, but no, my work want me to organise something.

I'm familiar with MS Teams, and I've been googling - discovered 'together mode' which sounds quite interesting and also break out rooms (which I've used before).

They'll be approx 60 of us ... would we need break out rooms for that, is 60 too many at once if we don't? Any ideas what to do, rather than sitting aimlessly with a glass in front of a screen, talking over each other ... at least that'll be an improvement on warm cheap plonk in a plastic cup in a conference room Grin

Glad it’s you! Team quiz is probably only option 🙈 hope others have ideas for you!

Definitely small breakout groups if you can, 60 people together is too many and only 1 person can speak at once so will be boring for the rest. If you can maybe a few different breakout groups so people have a chance to chat with others. Good luck! It might be logistically challenging to organise but it is doable!

Split into teams for quizzes? Or get an activity sent to everyone, like doughnut decorating, that you can do on the call?

You’re going to need to orchestrate it quite well, as video call fatigue has set in heavily now, so having something for people to engage with will be really helpful.

Just pretend your internet is down?

We did a quiz with my orchestra where you got the ten questions for each round posted in the chat then you broke into chat rooms to do them, can only really have about 4/5 or people in a room or people don't get a chance to talk.

Sounds awful, my sympathies.

I wouldn't put too much effort in, it'll only encourage them Grin

But yes you need smaller rooms, six max I would say.

SylviasMotherSaid · 06/10/2021 15:59

Do you have an end time for the event ? I’ve found video calls like this end up very awkward with everyone desperately wanting to log off but not wanting to be the first to go .

BigSandyBalls2015 · 06/10/2021 17:05

Thanks all. Def need an end time, good point! … 5.30-5.45? 🤣

We did a team quiz and everyone towards the end was clearly just not starting any new conversations and glancing around these things are so nerve wracking in a first world problem sense lol

Sounds hideous. I would be sending my apologies that my internet was running slow and couldn't get logged on if I got invite to this.
