I'm in law and I'm looking for a new job. I'm asking my own contacts and sending out CVs, and at the same time I've spoken with four recruiters.
Recruiter one interviewed me for about an hour for a law tutor job and seemed really excited about the match. Then she ghosted me for a week and when I finally got through she said they're looking for a barrister, not a solicitor (which I am). Then she asked me to explain the difference between a barrister and a sol, because the person at the uni tried to explain but she didn't understand.
The second one refuses to tell me the name of the firm. There are some firms in my area of practice which have a great reputation and some which I wouldn't touch with a bargepole. I even offered to sign an undertaking not to contact the firms directly, but no go.
The third "forgot" my minimum salary requirement (a specific number) and I wasted a morning interviewing at a place that offered less than my current salary.
The fourthand maybe I was just done at this pointasked for my CV, said he was new to Legal recruitment, and said he'd give a call to chat sometime during the day. He tried to ring whilst I was in a Zoom call with a client and then when I didn't answer he rang 16 more times in a row! (I had my phone on silent and in my bag, noticed later). No text, no "call me when you're free". I haven't got back in touch because WTF.
Am I missing something?
