I don’t know if this is possible but I recently got a brand new computer. However, I am struggling to use it because every time I switch it on and it connects to the internet the internet just cuts out and no one else can access the internet until the computer is switched off.

I have no idea if this is even possible, but I have had the computer for about a month now and this has happened every time I turn it on. I just have no idea where to even start.

All other devices connect perfectly when the computer is turned off. No other internet issues at all.

It’s annoying because I got the new computer for work and now it just feels like a waste.

Hi.
How are you connecting .
Wired or wireless.

What broadband speed do you get .
If it’s poor, that could be the reason why other connections fail.

Obviously check for viruses. What antivirus are you running .

Updates ?

You say the internet cuts out. Is there a specific program or browser which causes this ?

If all else fails perform a reset. This restores the original copy of windows, and retains your files. Non windows programs would have to be reinstalled though.

@Yorkshirebornandbread

I have been connecting both wired and also through WiFi.

Our speed isn’t too bad, we have never had any issues with the internet before all this.

Anti virus was pre installed and I have so far never had any updates come up.

Nothing in particular seems to caused the internet to cut out. Sometimes the internet cuts out instantly and sometimes I am able to get online for a little bit.

I guess I will try and full reset.

I got confused. Is the computer connecting OK but blocking everything else? Or when you turn the computer on the internet stops completely? What operating system is it on? Have you tried leaving it connected overnight to make sure any updates have been done whilst noone else needs internet? I'm thinking it's trying to pull some massive updates that's monopolising the connection.

A long shot, but go to network status, select "change adaptor settings", then select Ethernet, then select 'details'. In the list that comes up, does it state:
"DHCP enabled Yes"

SpringRainbow · 05/10/2021 09:57

Yeah, I turn the computer on and either instantly/ eventually no device (including this computer) can access the internet.

@DogDaysNeverEnd I’ll try this tonight, thank you.

@Ifailed yes, enabled.

Two things spring to mind. Either your network adaptor card is damaged, or your PC is using an IP address that is causing conflict in your home network. As you said you have DHCP enabled, you could try forcing your PCs address to change:

Press Windows key to enter Run box.
Type CMD. Then, hit Enter. This should open up an old-school PC window.
Type ipconfig/release in the Command Prompt window. Press the Enter key.
Type ipconfig/renew. Press Enter.

This should refresh your PCs address. If this doesn't work, I'd be handing it back to work and get them to sort it out, it could be a hardware problem.
