HbA1c test 3 months pp - what do I need to do?!

Hello

I’m due to have a hba1c test tomorrow as I had gestational diabetes. Doctor didn’t mention any need to fast when she gave me the blood test form but she just gave me the form at the 6 week check and didn’t say anything else. I have called reception and asked if I need to fast and they said they didn’t know and couldn’t ask anyone for me. They said I should just turn up and if I need to fast come back on another day which doesn’t seem to be the best use of resources! Has anyone done this test post partum and if so, were you asked to fast? I could fast anyway from 9pm but the appointment is at 11:30 and I don’t want to fast if I don’t need to.
Thank you in advance!

You don’t need to fast for a hba1c; it’s an ‘ average ‘ from last three months blood sugar. You do need to fast if the send you for a glucose tolerance test

Deffo no fasting. And make sure you get an annual HBA1C in case the diabetes comes back to bite you on the bum, took eight years for that to happen to me!
