Heated throw: to buy or not to buy

88 replies

TeapotCollection · 04/10/2021 14:12

I’m one of those people who is almost always cold, I’ve often thought about buying a heated throw but I think it might make me worse. I can already picture myself crawling out of the throw to get a drink/go to the loo and feeling even colder than I would if I didn’t have it

Any thoughts or opinions much appreciated

@StrawberryJamSandwiches

I'm really tempted too! I'm WFH and my house is freezing. I'd love a heated wearable one, but don't think there is any such thing. Will it be good for sitting up on a chair whilst working from a laptop? I suppose my legs and feet would be warmer... I'm torn too!
There is now!

Buy. I often don't put on the heating, it's so warm. My understanding is it costs pennies to run.

Luckystar1 · 04/10/2021 21:35

I bought one last year. It was AMAZING!

But… I accidentally left it on and lying over the controller and it melted the buttons together so it wouldn’t work any more 😱

It freaked me out a bit that it had got hot enough to do that, so I haven’t replaced.

Mine was the Cosihome one.

Claudethecat · 04/10/2021 21:39

I have the Dreamland one, I only bought it recently and it is fab. I think it will save ££ on heating.

HemanOrSheRa · 04/10/2021 21:46

@Catawaul

I wonder how long I can get away without turning the heating on if I get one of these!
I was wondering that too! We have night storage heaters so we try and hold off with the heating as long as possible until the cold weather sets in properly. Plus I'm perimenopausal so my inner body temp runs at volcanic Grin. But right now I'm COLD! Which is a bit of a novelty.

I'm thinking a heated throw might be ideal - I can snuggle up when I'm cold then throw it off when a hot flush hits. Plus the dogs will love it, I'm sure.

Nanny2many · 04/10/2021 21:48

I've got one its great. although if you're worried about getting cold leaving the sofa then i would invest in a onesie! Ive got a huge fleecy one its about 3 sizes too big so i wear it on top of my clothes (pjs) like somebody would typically wear a dressing gown, but i prefer this as dressing gowns dont cover legs, plus they dont stay closed unless you pull the belt tight.

I've wondered about this for WFH purposes, as it doesn't seem worth heating the whole house when I'm the only one in. But I'd have to leave my arms free and I obviously have to move around a bit, if only to pick up files etc. Is it practical for that or would I be better off using an ordinary room heater?

TheDogsMother · 04/10/2021 21:55

Yes definitely. I got mine from Lakeland and as I WFH in a very cold house it's a godsend. It saves putting the heating on during the day.

nancybotwinbloom · 04/10/2021 21:55

@2Two

I have one on my lap for working from home.

Same as you. I wouldn't be without mine now

kweeble · 04/10/2021 22:12

I bought the JL Dreamland one listed above last week and it's so good - I think I can avoid putting the heating on just for me for now so it keeps me warm and saves cash.
I liked the idea of the wearable one but prefer the throw - I'm sure I'd feel cold if my legs and feet weren't in the warm cocoon I've made. The cable is around 12 feet long so I can sit away from the wall socket!

StrawberryJamSandwiches · 04/10/2021 23:20

Ohhhh, thank you thank you thank you!!!! I'm putting the order in, it's exactly what I've been looking for!

Mumzoo5070 · 04/10/2021 23:22

Buy! I have one you pop in the washing machine then tumble dry and it's like new. Love it.

StrawberryJamSandwiches · 04/10/2021 23:25

^^that was for th kind person who showed me the heated poncho!

middleager · 04/10/2021 23:25

There's one at QVC right now, you can pay in three installments. Doubles up as a cape.

I bought a cheap Amazon one last year and it melted. Definitely research!

TheChosenTwo · 04/10/2021 23:37

I quite fancy one but would probably end up needing to buy 4 as it’s the kind of thing my kids would all end up using Hmm
We have got the heating on but I just love being cosy and I get freezing at work and struggle to warm up even though the house is technically warm. Love lighting the fire too but sometimes just can’t be arsed with cleaning it out and making a mess with logs etc…
I’m going to research these!

Anystarinthesky · 05/10/2021 01:03

I have this heated cape, it is really cosy.

I also have this heated overblanket.

I recommend both.

IthinkIsawahairbrushbackthere · 06/10/2021 12:42

I bought one for my mum a couple of years ago and she loved it.

TeapotCollection · 06/10/2021 20:44
