Heated throw: to buy or not to buy

TeapotCollection · 04/10/2021 14:12

I’m one of those people who is almost always cold, I’ve often thought about buying a heated throw but I think it might make me worse. I can already picture myself crawling out of the throw to get a drink/go to the loo and feeling even colder than I would if I didn’t have it

Any thoughts or opinions much appreciated

So glad you started this thread! I've had the dreamland heated throw in my basket for days, going back and forth about buying it. Just bought it off the back of this thread BlushGrin

I have this one, one of the best things I ever bought.
Wouldn't be without one now Smile

supercritter · 04/10/2021 17:17

Buy, it's my favourite thing

duckiemonster · 04/10/2021 17:32

I was thinking of getting one of these and have a stupid question - when you are sat on the sofa with it on you does it have to be plugged into a plug socket nearby the whole time or does it sort of charge up then you unplug it to use it?

Whymustyoubringinthebirds · 04/10/2021 17:37

I also have the cosihome one from amazon, I bought mine last autumn following that my mother bought one for herself and as a gift, my brother bought one and my mil bought one Grin so well loved in my family

Shutupandsitdown · 04/10/2021 17:41

I bought one while signed off sick. Best £50 I ever spent. I have a Dreamland black faux fur from Argos. The cable is pretty long and clips off so you can wash the throw in the washer.
Now I’m back at work I have it on low over just my feet for the time being.
I think one with a pocket at the bottom for your feet would be better than mine

Shannith · 04/10/2021 17:42

BUY BUY BUY. I love mine more than DD. Well, nearly.

Best thing I ever bought. If you have pets they will become like Velcro.

PeppermintMocha · 04/10/2021 17:45

I have a dreamland one. It's great. But I keep getting tangled up with the cord as I have a spinny desk chair! I wish there was a (cheap) power pack or battery pack or something I could get so it didn't have to be plugged into the mains all the time.

Dragonpox · 04/10/2021 17:47

Can you spill tea on it without electrocuting yourself?

byvirtue · 04/10/2021 17:48

I have 3! Definitely make sure the cable will unclip and they are washable (if you have pets, children or partner!).

It needs plugging in.

I’m not a cold person at all, but moved to a very cold house last winter. My husband insisted on buying a heated throw and I honestly thought it would be rubbish… but lo and behold I had to buy my own one! It’s lovely!

BlackboardMonitorVimes · 04/10/2021 17:51

@Dragonpox

Yes. I constantly do this as I am a fuckwit. Not electrocuted myself so far.
Catawaul · 04/10/2021 19:48

I wonder how long I can get away without turning the heating on if I get one of these!

GoWalkabout · 04/10/2021 20:05

The Dreamland is great but do read the instructions because me and mum both managed to kill ours (they replaced them instantly despite our mistake). Basically the intelliheat system automatically stops it if there's a problem but we kept over riding it and switching back on. Also, the top setting is only for prewarming and you must not scrunch the throw up too much.

earlydoors42 · 04/10/2021 20:58

Do you sit on it or do you put it over you?

BogRollBOGOF · 04/10/2021 21:06

I cracked and bought the dreamland last week. I've spent far too much of the past couple of winters just not having the core heat for my body to warm up no matter how many layers I've piled on.

Oooh, DS just turned it on and my legs are begining to warm up Grin

BogRollBOGOF · 04/10/2021 21:07

@earlydoors42

Put it over. Good for casual use like on the sofa.
AutumnColours9 · 04/10/2021 21:08

Love mine it is a silent night one

earlydoors42 · 04/10/2021 21:15

@BogRollBOGOF Thank you! I have a duvet for the settee and an electric blanket for my bed. I think the heated throw is the next step for me :-)

StrawberryJamSandwiches · 04/10/2021 21:21

I'm really tempted too! I'm WFH and my house is freezing. I'd love a heated wearable one, but don't think there is any such thing. Will it be good for sitting up on a chair whilst working from a laptop? I suppose my legs and feet would be warmer... I'm torn too!

BlackeyedSusan · 04/10/2021 21:26

What else have you tried layer wise. (wool layers, base layers?)

I am a cold perrson and need many, many layers in winter. (eg three pairs of socks, two base layers and trousers, two base layers and two woolly cardigans.

Last year meeting outside I managed: at least 8 layers

BlackeyedSusan · 04/10/2021 21:27

is it cheaper to run than heating?

what is the impact on the environment?

DukeofEarlGrey · 04/10/2021 21:29

I LOVE mine. I have no health conditions but live in a freezing old flat and it's honestly improved my winter life! I do find it hard to get out from under it but why is it better to be cold all of the time than some of the time??

Mine is from Lakeland and very good value for the quality imo.

DukeofEarlGrey · 04/10/2021 21:30

Much cheaper and much better for the environment, yes.
