Handhold please- waters broken, contractions started, going to delivery. 31+5

DC2 due beginning Dec- came into maternity triage yesterday as had a bit of dark brown discharge. They noticed during speculum check that quite a lot of fluid came out and I mentioned that I’d been having a lot of what I assumed was runnier-than usual discharge for the last few days. Was admitted as they thought it could be waters broken/early labour, was told 60% chance of delivering within 48 hours.

Contractions/tightenings started maybe 90 mins ago, now being moved round from Antenatal to delivery.

Needless to say we are woefully unprepared.

Have they talked you through their plan?

TinyCIanger · 04/10/2021 06:04

I’m still hooked up to CTG in Antenatal, they’re going to keep an eye on it and are considering mag sulph injections to slow things down/mitigate risk of CP in baby if deemed necessary. Had a steroid injection yesterday evening and they may bring the next scheduled one forward. Neonatal have been informed, just waiting to go to delivery now. CTX are 3/4 in 10, not especially painful but I can feel them.

And a handhold from me too. Thinking of you Tinyclanger.

NoHunGosh · 04/10/2021 06:31

Oh. Big handhold here. I went into labour one day shy of 30 weeks. Terrifying and yet exciting at the same time. Neonatal teams are the most amazing doctors and nurses I've ever met. You are in very, very safe hands.

Suitcaseseverywhere · 04/10/2021 06:35

Handhold from me x

TinyCIanger · 04/10/2021 07:25

Had a (very unpleasant) speculum check and cervix is closed so Dr doesn’t think I’m going into proper labour right now. Will stay on CTG monitoring in delivery for a bit longer and then if no change it’s back round to Antenatal…

Fingers crossed that baby stays put for as long as possible.

Wowcherarestalkingme · 04/10/2021 07:51

Keeping everything crossed for you. My DS2 was born at 32 weeks and though scary. The drs and nurses are miracle workers on NICU. DS is nearly two now and apart from being a bit small is completely healthy in every way. Good luck to you x

dc1 was born at 31weeks exactly by emergency c sec after my waters broke and i had heavy bleeding. It all started a week early at 30 weeks and i was being monitored and given steroid within that week. Baby stayed in neonatal uni for 5 weeks came out at nearly 37 weeks

MadamMaltesers · 04/10/2021 10:01

youre in good hands op and the steriods will make a huge difference

TinyCIanger · 05/10/2021 22:53

Thought I’d post a quick update- it was a short visit to delivery, after some more time on the CTG and a speculum check the contractions tailed off and I was taken back to antenatal, where I remained until they eventually let me out this evening! Care will now be consultant led, have got another week of antibiotics and will be going in for weekly bloods and CTGs and possibly additional scans.
Had a scan yesterday and there’s still plenty of fluid around baby who weighs an estimated 3lbs 15oz.
The plan now is an induction at 37 weeks which I’m unsure about - if there’s plenty of fluid in there and baby seems quite content I’m just not really sure why it’s necessary?

That's great to hear baby is still inside and you're getting home OP.

Great news @TinyCIanger. Hope that little one waits a bit more!
