Got mine first thing tomorrow & I came on earlier.

Can I still have it?

Google it? It says you shouldn't as it can affect the test.

Willow231 · 03/10/2021 21:24

I'm afraid not, it can mess with the results. At least that's what my doctor told me.

MildCreamyCheddar · 03/10/2021 21:27

I was coming on and didn't even realise yet when I went for one and she couldn't do it.

No I couldn't have mine a few weeks ago because of this

ChimChimeny · 03/10/2021 21:59

Thanks everyone, I'll call first thing to rearrange 👍🏻

Well I would think it'd be pretty gross anyway for the poor person doing the smear. I wouldn't dream of getting it done on my period.

Theunamedcat · 03/10/2021 22:03

Get an app your ideal time is mid cycle

BobaFettOnMyBedsideTable · 03/10/2021 22:04

It should be done at a certain point in your cycle I think. Also, I know periods are perfectly normal, but I don't think it would be particularly nice for the nurse/doctor so wouldn't for that reason.

I honestly don’t think GPs care. I went to my GP to have my coil removed and realised as I dropped my pants that I’d started my period. I was embarrassed and said to the GP I would have to rearrange because my period had begun and she said ‘I couldn’t care less about that, let’s just crack on’.

They’re wearing gloves etc anyway, and they’re hardly squeamish.

supertedious · 03/10/2021 22:06

You shouldn't. I was told it would be fine and then surprise, surprise I had abnormal results. I then had to go through the worry of further investigations and thankfully everything was fine.

Timeisavirtue · 03/10/2021 22:39

I wouldn’t want to, one i figure it would be highly uncomfortable for the person doing it, 2nd I feel shit enough on my period without added uncomfort....

expatmigrant · 03/10/2021 22:42

No. Smears should be done mid-cycle. Work out your dates and make a new appointment

Clevs · 03/10/2021 22:48

I had a smear booked at the start of last month. My period started the day before. I rang the doctors and they said they could do it any time of the month except when you're bleeding, so I had to reschedule for the following week.
