Anyone else married to a man child?

A while ago my husband went on a cooking outside course. It was a present from me which I now regret. He's decided he wants to cook a leg of lamb in a hole in the ground in the garden. Fine. Whatever. We have a bit of the garden at the bottom thats totally covered by trees and no grass grows there. Its more like a woodland floor so he's doing it down there. The fires been on since 9.30 this morning. Hes now decided he'd like to clay bake some onions so hes wrapping some onions in clay as we speak. Its smoky and the neighbours want to hang washing out. They're annoyed and im siding with the neighbours. Theres mud trapsed through the house. Ive been looking after our 18mo because he 'needs to tend to the fire'. There is no point to this thread except wanting to moan. Hes ridiculous and im annoyed.

He recently announced that the lamb will be ready at 3pm. Not a meal time.

I know these days a lot of people need to hang washing out on a Sunday, but you also have to give and take with people having daytime bbqs and firepits, I think.

However, and it's a big however, the mess, the incompetence and the handing off of DC to you is fucking pathetic and annoying. Focus on that, not the neighbour's washing.

Your last 2 sentences made me laugh out loud. Have you broken that news to him yet?

NavigationCentral · 03/10/2021 12:56

When you bought him the cooking outside course, what outcomes had you envisaged? I’m genuinely curious as to what he could have done instead using this present from you.

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 03/10/2021 12:59

He goes wild camping sometimes. There.

The main thing I got from this is how entitled your neighbours are to expect you to stop the fire pit because they want to hang out washing. It's not like it's every weekend.

The only issue I can see are the mess (which you should tell him to clean up) and abdication of parenting. If this is often then yes, I'd be pissed off. If it's rare, then yabu

God i’d love that and would be joining in if possible! Only thing that would annoy me would be having to do the childcare by myself. As for neighbours sorry but I think washing can’t trump every other garden activity, especially as it sounds like a one-off today.

ChuckyCheese · 03/10/2021 13:05

Are you married to Ray Mears?

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 03/10/2021 13:05

I think BBQs and fire pits are fine. But not ones that last all day.

It’s a funny old world though. You think him doing that is evidence of him being a man child, I think it sounds cool, fun and interesting and i’d find my partner doing that extremely sexy! Might suggest it Grin

GrumpyPanda · 03/10/2021 13:06

It actually sounds rather fun to me. Call me a woman child.

Mariell · 03/10/2021 13:14

I’m a vegetarian but I think it’s great he’s doing things like that and will get your child involved in the future.

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 03/10/2021 13:16

Yup. Wild camping is our thing which we'll defo be doing with our son. I just like that kind thing kept separately from our nice home!

I do things like this. Underground Tagine. Baked potato cooked in the garden incinerator, cheese on toast cooked on the woodburner. I am a giant child Grin

Take your neighbours over some lamb?

Blueeyedgirl21 · 03/10/2021 16:07

Your neighbours sound boring and pathetic

Maybe buy them a Lakeland heated airer for Christmas. It’s October, chuck your clothes in the dryer

SammyScrounge · 04/10/2021 02:30

I can' t stop laughing.

IndecentCakes · 04/10/2021 05:53

I'm picturing Kevin off Motherland cooking his pig in a pit.

echt · 04/10/2021 06:11

I want to know how this all turns out. Neighbours, lamb, clay-clad onions, the lot.

Frogsonglue · 04/10/2021 06:15

Ooh, an event meal!

mafted · 04/10/2021 06:20

@IndecentCakes

I'm picturing Kevin off Motherland cooking his pig in a pit.
This is exactly what I imagined Grin
Pikamoo · 04/10/2021 06:39

As a one off it's not that bad. We all have our hobbies and things we like to do even after having kids. He should definitely clean up his own mess though. If I were you I'd be taking the toddler out and joining in with him. Then he's in charge of bedtime tonight and you can relax and do something you enjoy. Your neighbours are being very unreasonable! October is a very normal time to have an all day bonfire to clear your summer garden waste.
